Underhanded Lessons with Greg Watts at The Camp of Champions

Sometimes, while filming super shreds going off, you lose sight of exactly what or in this case "Watts" going down. You are so concerned about getting the focus and exposure right you don't notice the ridiculousness of what's going on. Until Gareth Dyer, our Head Coach, who happened to be standing beside me in between runs, said, "It's pretty insane that he can do all those tricks underhanded." Till then I hadn't even noticed, I was too busy concentrating on filming. I get so stoked at the level of riding this summer at "The Compound", that it scares me to think of how hard judging Crankworx is going to be with subtle tricks like this going down.

The coolest part of all of it was that all these tricks went down in the space of 10 minutes. Then it was back to the regular mayhem of coaches and campers learning tricks, the 365 Air Bag making people stoked and the "Epic Session" vibe that seems to be "The Compound" every night. It's pretty awesome to see everyone riding until it's almost too dark too see.

Just for laughs I mixed in Greg's underhanded tricks into my regular Compound edit to see if anyone would notice. I had to drop a few hints before people noticed. Here's the first edit.

When Jeff, Gareth and I decided that The Camp of Champions should build "The Compound", half of what I was hoping was going to happen, has happened. We designed "The Compound" as a place for campers to learn tricks through the combination of having the 365 Sports Big Air Bag, the Mulch Pit and the Dirt Jumps would get our coaches pushing and progressing their riding as much as the campers were. It seems to be working because it seems like every pro in town has dropped by for a session or two. The campers have been progressing like you wouldn't believe. We had seven campers who had minimal or no dirt jump experience doing backflips by the end of the session. We even had snowboard and ski pros hucking backies. It was almost stupid how much fun everyone was having hucking their meat into the 365 Sports Big Air Bag.

There are two weeks left of camp for this summer, so if you want to get your shred on in "The Compound" or in the Whistler Bike Park with some of the best coaches around, get on it or you are going to be wishing you were here sending it instead of actually being here and sending it.

We have just added legend Brett Tippie (the guy who 10 years ago first told us to start a bike version of camp) to our coaching staff. If you thought camp was already fun, I'm scared how much fun we are going to have now.

"Hey Tippie - You're late for work... ten years late! Welcome to the team!"

Try wheelieing your bike underhand, and your respect levels will go up even more towards Greg,
an unusual thing to champion, but like Greg said he just got bored with holding the bars regular, what type of person thinks like that.?Ha-ha.Someone with a screw loose or a pioneer, cos lets be honest theres a fine line seperating the two.Props Greg.

Picture curling a bar with weights while working out. His hands are palm up to the sky holding on as apposed to palm down. I asked him why he was doing that and he just shrugged and said that he's bored.

it sucks that judges cant really see that especially at the upcoming claymore challenge. unless he made a huge deal about it before dropping in. haha anyway that is SICK. good job greg

First off, no. This is not a trick, its merely another way to show off. Its not new, its been around as long as bikes have been jumping off shit. That and its really not very difficult

Every trick starting with "The Skid" is showing off. Some people can just show off better than others. It might not be new, but it sure is sick. Some of the best stuff is created/unveiled/invented/thought up (I'm careful on the word "created" these days) when you are bored.

It's a beautiful thing called editing. They don't show all the footage. So he probably did a straight-aired tailwhip, which is not shown here.

I'm sure he did too. There's a lot going on and I'm trying to film the campers at the same time. Ken
