Pinkbike Poll - How Much Did You Spend on Your Bike?
@mnorris122: The bike industry, and our economy as a whole, would founder tomorrow if people bought what they "need". For better or worse, our economy functions on selling people what they "want".

Ask Pinkbike: Clutch Trouble, DH Pants, Converting a DH Bike, and Sub-Par Shops
@Zerozerozero: Queenstown=Bike Addiction. Nelson=Gravity Nelson. Rotorua =mtb Rotorua at the trailhead. Treated splendidly all three places. Excellent bikes that they took the time to set up for my fat ass.

With two broken wrists, you soon find out who your true friends are. Don't ask me how I know.

@piersgritten: or rent the trail bike. Just got back from NZ and had no problem renting. You could rent an excellent AM bike for a month for RC's anticipated conversion cost.

@Dentist: no apologies necessary. I never read comments while I could be riding, just when I'm supposed to be working.

@Poulsbojohnny: A Bentley and a Subaru will both get you to the package store for a cold case, but people that can, still buy the Bentley for the price of ten Subarus or so. For better or worse, our (semi) capitalist society profits from selling people what they want, not what they need. I make what most people would consider great money, drive a thirteen year-old truck with 280,000 miles, with the pleasant consequence that I can afford whatever bike makes me happy.

@g-42: I would argue, (and often do) that it is really a cheap sport. Cheaper than a bass boat. Cheaper than skiing, when you factor in the cost of travel and resort stays and overpriced drinks. And for God sakes, cheaper than owning a horse. My bike was expensive, but cheap to own after that. Except for a couple hundred for shoes and helmet that last years, no other gear to buy. With trails two minutes from the house, no travel costs.

Dentist, happy for your 280 upvotes, but you're like the overly drunk guy at the party, that just won't let that old joke, that was never that funny, just go.
