Thought Experiment: How Much Does It Actually Cost To Start Mountain Biking?

Well, I (kinda) just did this. My girlfriend lives a couple of hours away in a flat place, but I discovered a couple of decent riding spots so I decided to get a hardtail to leave at her place. These are the things I bought (all of them new): Bike: Cannondale Habit HT - 620€ Pedals: already had them Shoes: Specialized Method - 38€ Clothes: Alpinestars shorts and t-shirt - 25€ total (privatesportshop.it) Helmet: Specialized Tactic - 32€ (specialized.com) Glasses: some random clear ones on aliexpress - 4€ Add some 15€ to make it tubeless and the grand total is... 742€, if I had to purchase some decent pedals it would maybe get to 800 (which is about what I spent on a fork for my main enduro bike btw), so I feel like your numbers are a bit off, you just have to look for some deals.

@Takaya94: It would be much lighter than the Zeb+Smashpot. Mine is about 2.9kg, which is a lot. It works so well, though, that I don't care. It's also bolted to a Tracer 29 and it feels like a good match to that frame
