@chrisclifford: Certain events.... but what if it was all the events, everywhere, all year?

I'm probably ignorant of a lot of existing race infrastructure and governing bodies, but here's my idea: I'm imagining a Global Enduro Syndicate of regional and national enduro series coming together to standardize a points system. Every rider has a global points pool. National level events give more points than regional. Anyone racing the pro category earns points. The more races you do, the more points you get. You can win the overall G.E.S. points race if all you do is get the most points. The Global Enduro Syndicate takes over the world championship even hosting. Points from the G.E.S. get you onto the world stage. The UCI is not involved. G.E.S. can sub contract the worlds event hosting to a race organizer. Race organizers can put in bids or enter a lottery system to earn the right to host the event. The fact that organizers can promote their race as offering points now gives them something to attract more talent to their events. The top level racers would have to craft their race schedule to optimize for travel, frequency and points. Similarly, the points structure would need to craft a healthy balance between different event tiers. Now your rider base and participation base is every pro level athlete around the world, in every country. Disparities between talent on the regional level actually help to send a more diverse group of riders to the world stage, similar to the Olympics, instead of the current Euro centric rider base. My local race series is the Cascadia Dirt Cup hosted by Race Cascadia. There are some real monsters in the pro field. It would be so cool to see them earn the opportunity to compete at a world level event by racing at events I can actually go see. So much to think about and so many considerations for such a huge undertaking. I'll shut up now.

Same. I have standard and can't see DH races or replays.

@Ih8Hondas: Thanks for this, I was wondering what the rider field was like in moto events as that seemed like a great comparison. Comparing the niche sport of DH to any of the mainstream team sports doesn't make sense to me.
