We were riding Creekside for Whistler's last weekend and stopped in the middle of Elixer to watch the live timing for Jackson's run on my phone. What a moment. As others have noted, the commentators not being able to figure out where Vali Holl got the ten seconds at the fourth split was hilarious.
Yeah, he made a refreshing change providing some actual interesting insight. It was quite frustrating at the last round though where he kept getting interrupted while actually talking about something interesting just to have a generic statement shouted out over the top of him which added very little. I get that you need some hype, but the timing could have been better
12 minute highlight reels - much more like it.
I know it's easy to complain since the coverage overall has certainly been a step back from Red Bull, but either Discovery has gotten it together or they've been actually listening to feedback, because the last few rounds were noticeably more watchable.
I think they are just scared, people just stopped watching dh and manufacturers got pissed, the same with enduro. Highlights this long is the sign they just gave up.
The more I watch the more I realise that the iconic winning runs are iconic because of the whole 'package' perfectly aligning, coming together and that's why these presenters are going to always water down /ruin what could be iconic events. I mean Danny Harts Word Champions wouldn't just be the same if Rob and Pagey hadn't been commenting! Imagine that run with these two presenters - not including Gwin in this
I've been watching the top ten of rhe elite finals run and before womens semis via my GCN+ account and i really can't complain. There's an american, a frenchie and an englishman, all with knowledge an ties deep into the industry, commentating and cheering on an international field with a tight field and awesome racing and stories. What more can you want. Yes Cedric is just there for the hype. Yes the english guy is the well spoken presenter to round things off. But with having someone like Gwin there for the insights into riding and racing it's a good package. I personally wouldn't need semis, byt the rest is fine.
Well, the german/austrian commentary is actually horrific. They put the nationality of the riders in focus much too much. And I hate when Ric McL or CG ask Miriam or Aaron a question and then interrupt rudely to say something stupid! Yes, and they never understand relative timing to the currently leading rider.
The rumour has been around for the last two weeks actually, but I guess the commentators might have definite info she is leaving Rockshox Trek for sure.
Or maybe her contract is just up this season. Whatever the case may be, she put herself in the best possible negotiating position. I hope she gets all she deserves.
