About the Race

For the second year in a row the Marin Counties Access 4 Bikes has completed a successful Marinduro race. The main goal of A4B is to advocate for mountain bike riders through advocacy and fun events like the Marinduro.

The Course

The Marinduro is a blind format enduro race. That means racers don’t have any time to preride or practice on the race course. The race is run on Camp Tamarancho trails owned Boy Scouts and maintained by A4B the land just outside of downtown Fairfax, California. A4B have done a great job of squeezing every last bit of downhill out of Tamarancho, with a total of 12 miles and 1,750’ vertical feet. As seen on the course map there are 5 stages for all racers with an additional 6th for pro and expert.

Course condition were challenging this weekend with a torrential downpour the day and night before. Almost the whole race course was soaked with six inch mud bogs for transfers. By the end of the day ruts were deep and bikes were soaked.

Note: There is an Access 4 Bikes trail work day April 6th to repair the trails.

 Second to last shot is me trying my best to look good going around a corner! Glad they got me looking good on the entry instead of sliding around on the exit haha!

 Looked like a fun day in the mud. Wish I could have participated if I had my enduro's rear mech working ;-;

 I worked this again as a course marshal and the EEBer catagories were having a WAY better time of it. Tough day in the saddle after a night of rain. Hell, tough day ANY day for me. Gonna race it next year.

 For sure! I'm done volunteering for A4B and being a member but they are mostly good people.

 @suspended-flesh: that’s ominous… but yea have heard some big shots in the org run a lot of people the wrong way.

 @suspended-flesh: Hey there, bummed to hear you feel that way. If you'd be interested in telling us more, we'd love to hear what's happened and how we can do better. - Amanda, A4B

 @APeters2016:Thanks Amanda. I had Comment Remorse after posting that but you can't really edit/delete a comment after a couple mins here on PB. Nothing major - pretty petty stuff. No burrito was was delivered to my spot 2 straight years and when I went to turn in my vest and get a beer ticket and T-shirt after the race, I was informed that volunteers "don't get t-shirts". LOL - I was too soaked and cooked after a 12-hour day to point out that the sign-up sheet asked for my shirt size! I didn't really care about the shirt until I saw each was hand dyed and purple! Then I had to practically produce ID to get a beer ticket/wristband. I'll have you know I've been swilling beer longer than the person had been alive. It's all good - I am happy to have helped. I got to fish the guy with the broken collar bone out of a gully. I'll be racing it from now on.

RE: Membership - I don't care for auto-renewal/card-billing in perpetuity membership schemes and the only way out I saw was Unsubscribe. Maybe I'll change my mind next year.
