@sanchofula: there’s non profit mountain bike associations that also build trails the same way.
These forests are everyone’s. Theres a huge amount of people who pay taxes that don’t want MTB trails there. How stoked would everyone be if people just started putting pirate pickleball courts in the woods?
The fines ridiculous but it’s this way for a reason. People are only upset because it’s a MTB trail. If it was anything else everyone here would be on the courts side.

@slumgullion: Right, but the resort if in the same state forest is working with the forest service. That way the forest service has oversight over what’s going on. You can’t just get forest service land and build whatever you want, all the trails/infrastructure needs to be approved.
It’s an unpopular opinion here but if you decide to just pirate trails in a national forest and get caught, you deserve the penalties because you knew what you were getting into.
