BikeStow Launches the Storm: A $749 Freestanding Bike Rack for Truck Beds
I don't have a $1500 rack, but I can tell you that new trucks with that silly hump in the tailgate don't really play nice with a pad. It works, kind of, but the bikes in the middle always fall into the bikes around them and they don't fit all that great.
My old Chevy I use a pad, the new truck between the silly tailgate design and the fact that I have our camping gear stored on a homemade bed slide drawer, a rack is needed.
