Martin Maes is something of a contradiction. On one hand he's an articulate man with a stoical outlook, and on the other he quite simply doesn't do things quietly. Whether it's coming onto the scene as one of the first true-enduro youngsters before eventually delivering on his potential after many years of trying with GT, getting mired in a doping scandal or beating downhill racers at their own game, there is so much about his career that is exceptional.

Featuring a rotating cast of the editorial team and other guests, the Pinkbike podcast is a weekly update on all the latest stories from around the world of mountain biking, as well as some frank discussion about tech, racing, and everything in between.

Entirely forgot about Maes getting nuked in 2019 over the antibiotic. Can't recall if he said it was UCI that made the decision but it was obvious he was not doping. Maes was on a complete and total rip & then bam - shot down over "masking agents" that were in antibiotics when clearly he was fighting a poorly treated wound. The dude is solid - and the fact that he placed so high on the 1st elite DH of the year, at Ft Bill of all places on an ebike frame says a lot (and maybe he was on flats too or was that just Fearon?).

Anyway - killer to hear more from Maes. Dude's a hero to lots of us.

why is PB bending over backwards to defend/justify/rationalize WB/Disco's awful coverage of the WC races? They completely bungled the Junior coverage, and the Elite coverage—especially the audio thsi weekend—is still sub-par. Redbull may have had their faults but it was FREE! We all—those of us who have been graced with regional televising—have to now pay for buggy coverage and audio with TERRIBLE commentators (except for Gwin). The wildly expensive crap coverage is indefensible, give it up PB

Did you actually listen to the podcast? I wouldn't say we're justifying it at all - there's definitely room for improvement. We address it around 6:16.

@mikekazimer: I felt like all of your criticisms were valid but failing to mention that track coverage was even worse with Red Bull was a bit unfair. Redbull Ft Bill coverage was always the most boring race of the year because they cut in essentially at the motorway and even if they had more splits up top it didn’t make it more exciting because we jumped in with the riders 3/4 of the way down. Even Warner struggled to make that coverage exciting.

Kind of forget just how fast Martin was pre-Covid. Would be sweet to see him back up to speed. Great interview Henry!

PB's spellcheck must be on the fritz. His 2019 season was "tumultuous," not "temultuous."
