Head to Head: 2026 Santa Cruz Tallboy vs. 2020 Norco Optic
This was awesome, thanks for doing it! It’s interesting how the Optic was described as XC-ish several times, but iirc that description didn’t really materialize in the 2020 PB review. In fact they tested the bike in WBP

Chromag Throwdown Review: Too Slack or Just Right?
Fixation on reach alone is flawed. I’m 5’10” and have comfortably been on a 480mm reach bike for years. The ETT on this m/l chromag is shorter than mine.

@hardcore-hardtail: Never said I was surprised. Guess I’m just pointing out that what I’m observing in one of the most popular riding destinations in North America doesn’t jive with the PB comments section. There’s a ton of emtbs here and we’re just getting more trails. Emtb and regular bike riders aren’t raging at each other on the trails. I am suspecting the cool thing to do is bitch online about emtbs and their owners. But nobody is holding their advocacy dollars back out here. The advocacy org seems to be thriving and is welcoming riders of all bikes. If people at large were pissed about emtbs there would be immense pressure on the local trail org, and the land owners wouldn’t allow them. Most of the builders here are riding emtbs. This is reminding me more and more of the ski vs snowboard argument. And fwiw I don’t own a emtb, but probably will at some point. I’ve never had an issue with a emtb rider on the trails that I’ve not had with a regular bike rider.

It’s funny living in a mtb town, seeing how many people ride emtbs, watching local advocacy group memberships and donations grow, and seeing company and advocacy group policies change. I could be wrong, but it sure seems the majority of trail builders around here ride emtbs. One of the local bike companies used to publicly make fun of emtbs and now they have a few in their lineup. It wasn’t long ago the director of our advocacy group went on record explaining why making emtbs legal on local networks was near impossible (while they actively rode emtbs on those same networks). Then there’s the PB comment sections in which the prevailing sentiment is emtbs will be the death of us. I’m not really sure what to think, but it sure seems like there’s a lot of tribalism and groupthink happening.
