I've often considered this question myself.
The only thing I could think of was that it was preventative; suspension's been hammered leading up to this so let's replace anything that has the potential to fail...
I would think that if you wanted consistency in damping you would want to continue running all of the same parts since any new parts will be geometrically different than the previous parts (manufacturing tolerances). That is, unless they are measuring everything prior to installation to make sure all is nominal.
Then there's oil... What's the tolerance for oil viscosity (as well as other relevant properties) from batch to batch.
Maybe someone in the comments will know the answer to this question!

@IsaacWislon82: FWIW, I crashed in a POC Tectal Race helmet and, while it may have protected my head from a skull fracture, the crash still resulted in a severe concussion and TBI. Again, this is anecdotal and based on one guy's experience. I am on my 5th Tectal helmet now because the other 4 saved my head in previous crashes. I love my POCs, but I am interested in any technology that has the potential to reduce the probability of brain injury. That said, I too would like to see some data from VT or similar to empirically evaluate and grade this helmet relative to other top offerings in the industry.

As somebody that is currently dealing with the result of a bad crash where I was knocked unconscious, I have zero issue spending that kind of money on a good helmet.
Take care of your heads! Brain injuries suck man....

Monster is the title sponsor for the AMA supercross series and since the partnership I think things have only improved...
The article also states that this is a "long-term" partnership.
Both of these things strike me as big positives for DH in general.
Downhill racing has grown a lot since I started watching in the early 2000's. These guys and girls truly are "world class" athletes and deserve to be paid as such. Hopefully this is a step in the right direction!
