Update: Celebration of Life Details Announced for Motorcycle & MTB Pioneer Mert Lawwill
Wow, sad day.
My parents went on their first date to go see on any Sunday in the movie theater. I grew up watching Mert in that movie probably 1000 times. I also grew up in Chris Draayers Neighborhood and am fortunate enough to have the pro cruiser that Mert gave him that I received from his family after he passed away. I got to meet Mert at the funeral. I also met Mert at the deer Valley nationals when he was working for yeti. He thought my Karpiel was whack lol.
I think I’ll take my pro cruiser for a lap tonight around the neighborhood.
Thanks to Mert for all of your contributions to the 2 wheel dirt world

Throwback Thursday: 13 Mountain Bikes That Used Two Rear Shocks
The Karpiel apocalypse was originally designed for the small air shock to compress on big hits as a second stage with slow rebound like an airplane. It was discovered to work better with both shocks working partway into the travel- a feeling of slightly lower leverage but hard to balance.
Fun hack to modernize the geo is to run the air shock with no air pressure and rebound set to extend when unweighted for a couple seconds. This gives a more modern ride and felt like an Armageddon but has extra travel for big jumps and drops!

Review: EXT Arma V4 - One of the Best Shocks Gets Even Better
@kyleluvsdh:
I certainly would not say it was ever a problem. EXT prefers a lot of damping, Low speed rebound included. This combined with low reservoir pressure and no spring preload recommended, topout is rarely a problem. With that being said, the trend for faster rebound, some people adding preload to the spring, high spring rates on some e bikes along with increased sprung weight and the trend in general to have hydraulic top out as a feature were all reasons to make a change.

Review: EXT Arma V4 - One of the Best Shocks Gets Even Better
@kyleluvsdh: V1-3 had a rubber top out, S and E had a spring, V4 has a proprietary hydraulic top out. Hope that clarifies things.

Review: EXT Arma V4 - One of the Best Shocks Gets Even Better
EXT shocks have a pretty sophisticated rebound shim stack. I feel that they did not want to use a traditional hydraulic top out that uses a hole drilled in the shaft- that’s where shafts fail. They went to a negative coil spring for a bit before coming up with their own hydraulic top out system that reminds me of the hydraulic bottom out circuit with no strength compromises and allows for fast low speed rebound settings as Matt mentioned. There are also multiple rebound tunes available!
I’ve found the V4 to work on so many different bikes and leverage ratios with the stock tune and can only be made better with one of the optional tunes if the rider is at an extreme end of the weight or leverage spectrum.
Cheers

Bike Check: Oli Clark's Zerode G3 - 2025 Leogang DH World Cup
Gates is giving plenty to the team already, it seems Gates is invested in multiple teams that likely exceeds the prize purse. Advertising, ya know? Gates Purse all over the front of their pit.
Congrats to Zerode and the MS Team!
