Agreed--when I first went to Colorado in 2010, that's all we had was converted small mtb's :) I don't know how it'll work out for you...but I had to change to a DMR single speed kit. I can't tell if the one you have is spring loaded or not,but I had chain issues with the origin8 one that looks just like it. I think I have pics of the DMR on the 2007 Gary Fisher Bitter in my profile. That bike and kit has been through me--my friend JR--and now my friend jumpingjester, has owned it for going on 3rd season. I think it's on it's 3rd wheelset and 2nd fork. If your chain pops off---switch to the DMR kit.

Lawsuit Claims Search & Rescue Delays Contributed to Mountain Biker's Death
Nobody had a helicopter near????? just do a fly by (even at night) and check. That is where the first mistake was made. Sounds like negligence and a nonchalant attitude. Again, why do we pay taxes???? I know, there can be an argument made about money spent for the helicopter...blah blah blah...but he wasn't out long and it shouldn't have been that huge of a search area. Unless he was out blazing new trails and creating the path---a quick fly by of current trails shouldn't have been that hard.

Chain Reaction Cycles Won't Sell You Shimano Parts if You're in North America
Theres a couple of disappointing ways of looking at this.....It's not good for LBS or at home wrenchers Just another nail in the coffin for the American Do It Yourselfer--just like cars, now you almost have to go to the dealer. Bike shops made all their money on mark up pricing--let that sink in--not from being a good wrench and being loyal to the customer...but for selling a Trek Fuel EX8 for 2900 dollars but only get it for 1395. The shop I worked at rarely ordered upgrade parts but the mark up is the same on them. Save all your BS about my local shop this and that. I live in a major metropolitan area and if I need a part it will take atleast 2 weeks to get it from any LBS in the area. Don't get me started on the issue when I had to get a hub replaced (3 weeks). Plus, got fed the BS line--"uh, they messed up at the usual warehouse and it has to come from the one in California". Save all that BS too about, "That's how business works, blah blah"....Maybe you shouldn't be in the bike game if you wanted to be rich. Mom and Pop stores are gone from our country and it's because of a variety of issues, including distribution deals--but when you buy out the competition--this is what you get. A one stop shop with no knowledge or passion for what you do.
