Marin's Madrone Trail Hardtail is a Throwback to 1986 (And I Want One)
@davesc: i own one of these and love it! bought it for $100 on offer up and retro-modded it into what is basically this new madrone. 1x10 deore, big wide surly bars, thick panaracer tires, and the enviable front v-brake, rear OG canti combo!

Review: Shimano XT 8220 Brakes - More Consistency, Same Value
@Bad-Mechanic: I finally caved and bled my rear XT brake with Redline Likewater. Completely fixed the wandering bite point! Very consistent now, but i still have standard mineral oil in the front brake. My only complaint is that the dead stroke is still larger than I'd prefer. I like very little stroke before the pad starts to bite.
I kind of wish I had just bought some of the new shimano oil to see how it does. I'm sure it will be fine given folks like you have been running low viscosity fluid for years without issue.

OneUp's New XC Pedals Are Light & Sturdy
@2supple: I had a similar experience with my oneup clip pedals (i bought them in November, and made sure i had the revised clip in mechanism version). i started having trouble consistently unclipping and finally after one ride where i fell over twice while trying to unclip i took them off my bike. i'm back to oneup composite flats for the moment.
i'd like to get the oneup clip pedals to work because i like the idea of a platform with pins to support your foot through chunky stuff, while offering more efficient climibing, but i'm just not willing to fall over for it or crash in the event i can't get my foot out.

i had been riding on some XC shoes for a couple of months after riding flats for 5+ years and was sold on the power delivery climbing, with a trade off of getting knocked around on descents. generally didn't love the feel going fast downhill with the XC shoes/pedals.
so purchased some 2FO DH clipless shoes, in the same size as i did for the 2FO roost flats (46), and there's too much room in the toe box. even got the new oneup clipless pedals but still don't feel as connected to the pedals as flats on the descents. i don't know, i'm now $200 into this experiment and not super happy with the result lol. i want to go back to flats but all my riding pals are faster than me climbing, UGH.

Pinkbike Poll: What MTB Upgrades Do You Regret Spending Money On?
@wutamclan: it's astounding to me that people buy Eagle 90 aftermarket, yet alone product managers who spec this on bikes.
Shimano Deore 6100 has been around for FIVE YEARS and is better than Eagle 90/70 in every way: faster shifting, much much cheaper, and it weighs less.

Cheaper, significantly lighter, and faster shifting.

Review: SRAM's New Eagle 90 Mechanical Transmission - No Batteries Required
@nnowak: In my experience, aligning the 51T cog to the line on the back of the derailleur cage doesn't always result in good shifting, especially in the middle of the cassette. It takes many iterations for me, but i'm just a hack home mechanic.
