First Look: Santa Cruz 5010 and Tallboy 2
Don't worry PeteyInNH, happens to me all the time, too :-) . The only reason I raised it is because the trail he's riding isn't a dedicated MTB trail - it is an ancient mountain path on very fragile ground. Our mountains (the UK generally) are getting eroded with wider and wider trails as people walk on either side of the trail.... and thereby widen the trail. You should see the photos of the UK mountains from 30 to 40 years ago - often you can barely see a trail at all. Now they're all getting these freaking eroded motorways up them. Its a real shame. Of course, the trail Peaty is riding (one of my local trails - lucky me :-) ) is built on rock rather than (ironically enough) peat, so erosion is pretty much zero. Just my 2p

And you can't? I guess you need "supervision" when riding dude ;-)

Amusing caption to last photo: "There were no problems getting the Tallboy 2 off the ground, and it easily took on Scotland's rock strewn landscape." Apparently, it "took it on" by riding around all the rocks, off the path. Increasing erosion. Uncool.

Cane Creek - Ask Us Anything
Thanks guys - its for a friend's bike I recently rebuilt - he's running the E150 dual-crown future shock still, but it doesn't have a molded in crown race - it has a split ring. Since swapping the bearings for new ones, according to the ones sold to me by my LBS (a Spesh dealer who for some reason refused to order in the bearings from Spesh UK for me, and instead sold me a campy standard one), there is a slight amount of movement/play in the headset. The dimensions of the new one, by eye, were slightly different from the ones I removed (which were toast!) - hence my real concern. Only one of the two bearing cartridges that came out of the frame had any writing on it - hence the problem! From your answer, am I to understand that I actually need to buy two distinct, different, bearings that aren't actually available in one single headset? I'm guessing I have the correct top, but that the bottom might be wrong. My understanding is that the headset was one of "yours"; if so, can you point me at the right one? No worries at all if this is all too complex to deal with here - quite understand :-) ! Thanks for the answer - greatly appreciated!

Cane Creek - Ask Us Anything
Hi CCCC! Can you confirm absolutely the correct dimensions, angles etc for the headset in a 2008 Specialized EnduroSL S-works Carbon frame? Specialized UK, my LBS and the internet all seem to have differing opinions! Since it's one of yours, you would seem to be the guys to ask :-) ! Any help much appreciated! Tim

khakiflame - I'm agreeing with you dude, not arguing with you :-) ! I totally agree it rocks -its just about my favourite trail in Europe! Sasch and the other trail builders at Saalbach/Hinterglemm were inspired by the trails in Whistler - trails just like Blue Velvet. The corner in the photo I linked to (where Sasch is coming through behind Sabine) is just like the section in Blue Velvet.... except, as you say, that the wallride is not as high. I was just saying that, given the speed that riders like Eno and other local rippers are hitting the section on X-line, maybe it'll need building up like the wall-ride featured here at Blue Velvet!

you're not wrong Khakiflame - although given the speed I saw some guys going into the "equivalent" corner on X-line, it could do with being built up as high as this one :-) . Must have taken a huge amount of building, major props to the builders - i would LOVE to ride that trail :-)
