Coffee the old fashioned way. I haven't seen one of those pots in decades being that microwaves are so prevelent now. This is the " I want it now generation!" no time to wait for water to boil!LOL! You guys allways bring great lunches on rides and udon noodles are not heavy. Their only heavy if you eat gigantic proportions. Me I eat light so I dont toss my load on the trail!LOL! BTW; cool ride and I dont mind going up hills, its good cardio. Finished your ride with a Kirin brew, Japans ichi-ban beer! Nice Video Niko. Aloha& Shaka!

The old fashion was is the only way, ahahhaa
Really percolated coffee is 10times better than the new standard coffee drip machines.
Its carries on an aroma and deep flavor, without any aftertaste of coffee filter or a dirty machine.

I seldom use a microwave, my homemade stoves are very convenient and very ecological, especially while out on the trail. It usually take me 8 minutes to bring 3 cups to a boil and the let it percolate for another few for 10-12 minutes.

Udon is really fast and very soothing on a cold day, however this day was super warm, ahahhahahha
Yes, I think when your our riding, and of course like on a XC day like this, you should eat light every 2-3 hours.

We all need the cardiovascular for sure and a soothing beer hits home at dinner time!

In Hawaii do you usually eat lunch deep in the mountains?

RideOn matey! We had a great journey, it was a long way to the top in the September humidity. However we made it and continued on for a wonderfully fun DH ride! I love my percolator, it brews very strong coffee with a deep aroma. The alcohol stove is easy to carry anywhere and we brew cups of joe usually after every ride. We were all very tired on this day, ahhahahahha Im waiting for you videos mate, the bike has yet seen the light here on Pinkbike! Your enduro needs some encouragement. RideOn!

It definitely roasts the marshmallows nice and awesome at making 'Smores. Smile

Maybe I'll leave mine up at the cabin in Big Bear. Smile
  • + 1
I dont think thats a good idea, unless its dark as you cant see the flames in the alcohol. Plus its flame is too strong to roast them, I might have to make you a perfect light flam roaster. hahhahahha The stove you have is like momo in this video, made to boil water hot and fast! Having it big bear is an awesome idea!
  • + 1
MMmmm, beer!!! How did you end up living in Japan might I ask? Some awesome riding there!!!
  • + 1
Yes, an icy one at dinner after a long ride is always very pleasing. My wife is Japanese and after getting married in California we moved to Japan so she could help her parents out in their restaurant while her mother was out with a broken ankle. In the mean while I slowly started teaching English on the side while also working in the restaurant. Then in 2002 I opened an English school and have been busy ever since! ahhaahhaha Its pretty cool and even though the atmosphere is very different than Cali, I have made it home here. The surfing is bad, which I miss but the riding is superb with tons of steep rocky DH like in this ride! RideOn buddy!
  • + 1
Cool story! I give you props for making a move like that! Coming from Cali it hard not to like cultured women, im in the same boat!
  • + 1
Oh ya, I love cultured women of course!

Where is your girlfriend from?
Or are you getting married?
  • + 1
Most have been of the Latina flavour (current, not married but probably soon!?)...I have also dated Korean, Philipino and yes, 1 Japanese girl, an xchange student! Im Irish (born and raised in L.A.) and simply like opposites!
  • + 1
jaahhahahahhaha Thats wicked dude! I too love opposites, it makes life very fun! One reason I feel in love with brands like suntour and DaBomb everyone says they are crap but the ride better than most other products I have tired, a hahahhahha Im German Italian born and raised in Orange CA, my wife and I met very naturally and hit it off. We also lived together for a full year before getting married so, we were both in a good standing with our personalities. RideOn!

Look like you always have good rides with friends, those noodles look so good
  • + 2
The noodle are super good dude! They have a smooth tasty soup with a chewy kind of texture! Yummy! Yes we do our best to have a good time,ah ahahhahhah Its better that fighting I suppose, ahahhahahha Your videos too are very cool! RideOn buddy!
  • + 1
Yes Niko, always good to see ur edits! Hope to see some more adventures soon!
  • + 1
Thank you Dirt Rocker, going into a cooler season soon and hope to get some fun rides in! As autumn comes we will all have more energy to push through, RideOn!
  • + 1
I regret that I have yet to use my little stove. Frown

I guess I have to do an epic ride first? lol
  • + 1
Well it wise to test it out at home and learn to cook what your going to make out in the mountain! It will give you a fast boil for a hot meal!
  • + 1
mmmmmmmmmm, noodles for lunch sounds perfect! Great vid!
  • + 1
noodles too heavy if you have to ride after. but still good..
  • + 1
Noodle are awesome! There is not such thing as something too heavy, its how much you eat, jahahahhahahhah I had a sandwich with cheese and avocado which taking in consideration the calorie count much have been way more heavier than his noodles, but after lunch I was the first to the top. We had a 2 hour climb after lunch following the 3 hours before. I was actually beat and probably needed more food, ahahhahhah Yes, noodles are awesome! RideOn!
  • + 1
I liked the HOT noodles cause I always take energy bars or a sandwich... Generally I am too lazy to pack everything required for a hot lunch on the trails! and then there is the added pack weight!
  • + 1
Yes, but with a great little alcohol stove, like the ones I make you can very lightly take your gear for a hot lunch, especially in the coming months. I too use to pack what I could, sandwiches and stuff but on winter days especially a hot brew and some soup really rejuvenates your soul while out on a ride. With an alcohol stove you can pack a small pot, some instant noodles, the stove and alcohol and a wind screen very easily. For me its become my second hobby along with riding, ahahahhahhah rideOn!
  • + 1
Niko.i used to take with me just nutrition bars it all i need to have good energy + plenty of water.i really would love to do that.2 or 3 hrs climbing.it sound very challenge.i am big buy t with very strong legs haa.

great video amigo.
  • + 1
Yes, me too amigo. Nutrition bars are great for a light snack. I usually bring 3 liters of water and more if needed. However on a day like today we had 5 hours of climbing so, a bigger lunch is needed, if not you would not last all 7 hours from beginning to end. I think you would love this trial amigo its 40 mintues of DHing!
  • + 1
40 min dh sound really nice.did you enjoyed it going downhill after 5 hrs if climbing.
  • + 1
Oh yes buddy! After 5 hours up the DH was superbly fun!
  • + 1
 darn!... looking soo awesome
  • + 1
RideOn dude! We had a super cool day!
  • + 1
 8) Looks like a Rippin Good Time ! Big Grin
  • + 1
Thank you buddy! We had a very long climb up but it was well worth the descent!
  • + 1
this trail looks great, so for a 5 hour push up, how long is the descent?
  • + 1
Well actually we took the road up so,we were able to pedal 90% which made for a cool Ride!

Then there is about 30-40 minutes of pure flow!
The top half is really wall like steep so you lose lots of elevation in just seconds.
Then the second and third sections are more flowing single track!

RideOn!

  • + 1
Sorry, I dont read chinese! Well just remember we are all one on one planet. If you learn to have a moral respect for others and teach yourself tolerance while cooperating, you will find a sense of peace and happiness that fills your heart with joy everyday! Get out go for a ride and remember today is a great day! RideOn!

 @ chaozhao 得到一个生活的失败者
  • + 1
Its funny amigo! Some people just don't understand the true meaning of life, love and happiness. Dwelling on superficial news and truly caring for those who matter most to you. Marcel, thank you for your support you are a true friend. Im very sorry we have to deal with ignorant people like Chaozhao. He doen't even know Im not even Japanese, ahahhaha I just live in Japan. It does truly sadden me from within that no matter how hard we try to make and create happiness around the world there are always those who have to be a complete nuisance destroying life for those who just want to succeed. I know when you're angry its hard to hold back your feelings and true persona. I know its difficult to try to express your feelings when your angry and end up coming off wrong. I know life can be stressful not giving us the understanding and satisfaction we all deserve. However!
  • + 1
I know you can learn to be joyous. I know you can teach yourself tolerance and forgiveness. I know you can feel happy no matter the situation. I know life is good everyday if you make it your moral conscious to behave in all situations while learning to accept rather than fight. There is a certain peace inside. Let it be still and rest to keep your heart pure. Modern television and music warps our perception on life. Many people are running scared not understanding life and what they should do everyday. We have this misconception through T.V. and mass media. Its ruining our internal souls rotting into a creature with untrue feelings far from nature and real life. Please take in consideration, We are just people. We are nothing special. We do not have power other than our own personal strength and knowledge. I will continue to have fun and ride my bike on my day off with my friends. I hope that stillmrg, you will continue to enjoy my rides as a ride is a ride. Chaozhao I hope you learn to accept life as it is and accept the things you cannot change. You are only human. With the serenity and peace of mind learn to take action in your own life with a necessary goal in mind. Then you can and will feel your true power as a human! RideOn! Niko
