The North Face: Exploring the Bendor Range

 These comments are getting ridiculous, it's a sick video. Filmmakers need to eat/ live/ buy camera gear as well, if it wasn't for companies sponsoring productions or paying for advertising you wouldn't be here right now. Sponsorship dollars and logos aside, I would much rather stumble across this video because of it's being featured on a site rather than have a uninspiring half-baked iphone production shoved down my throat.

I understand everyone wants to fight the man and live free and die hard, but please respect us filmmakers who are working our asses off for crumbs so that you can watch a video for free on the internet.

 I understand exactly what you're saying. I never said I didn't enjoy the free content, especially as I am not a plus user. But to use your own comment, there are other photographers here, who aren't enormous companies, who could use the publicity even more than the North Face. Those are the photographers that deserve VOD. Not a giant company with already enough television advertising

 I'm scrolling back through previous VOD's and I see plenty of videos that fit this category. I have had several featured videos that I created by myself with friends which had no sinister corporations pulling the strings from above. That being said, I've also had sponsored content featured. Filmmakers aren't buying their way into this, it's a long road of hard work and frustration to create original pieces that you can be proud of. The video wasn't made by North Face, it was made by Sherpas Cinema, a crew of friends and filmmakers that started off very small and who busted their ass off for nothing creating awesome content (literally they are some of the most creative minds in the action sports world) and you know what, eventually a few companies came along and began taking notice, and low and behold, they actually were given money to create the films that they loved to do anyways.

I don't mean to come off dramatic, but isn't the goal of any aspiring filmmaker to become successful at doing what they are passionate about? Why should, as soon as they become successful, be cut off from exposure? There are 365 days in the year, with 365 potential videos to get featured. Contrary to popular belief, receiving a VOD isn't the be all and end all of filmmaking, but it is great to be recognized and have your hard work reach that many more people. Yes, the creators of this video were paid, but it took several months of planning, a week to film and a couple weeks to edit. It's not like it's shitty either, it was one of the best short bike films I've seen in a while.

Sometimes the content just speaks for itself, you don't need money to come up with something original, obviously it can help, but we're at a technological point where alot of people have the tools to create something awesome, and if that content speaks for itself, it won't need corporate funding to be seen.

 My point is that there are other videos produced by people who aren't paid at all, that deserve to be vod, and I (in my own personal opinion) see it as a little bit unfair that a video from an accomplished group of film makers, and a large, well known company will get exposure to a group of people that already likely know about them.

It's a killer video, definitely one I like because I love riding sand/gravel slopes as well as big mountain stuff, it's going to be vod because it's a good video, I just think there are other good videos out there too.

 Buddy this is big mountain freeriding, not mountain climbing. Im pretty sure many people go up in helis to snowboard/ski down huge lines, not climb them up and no one complains about that.
