Snow Summit Kona Honzo AM Hardtail edit

Riding my Custom Kona Honzo, a Chromoly All Mountain Hard Tail 29er, at Snow Summit Bike Park in Big Bear California. Following my buddy on his 7 inch Trek Slash. First time clearing (but also casing) some of the bigger jumps. as you will see at the end of the video i put a nice quarter inch hole in my tubeless rear tire, luckily i forgot the go-pro was filming

 fork?? nice ride

The fork is a 120mm Manitou Tower Pro. (34mm stanchion, hybrid air /coil) Excellent performance for its price. It has a different look due to its arches being behind the fork and not out front like most forks.

With 120mm is it OK for the riding of the video? I would like to have a honzo with 140, but i don't know if it is dangerous for his geometry

I bought the fork for a previous build that turned into my Honzo. I have allways contemplated putting a 140 on it, but don't have the money at the moment. I have heard on the forums that 140 doesn't throw the geo off that much, but don't take my word for it. For me lift served DH only accounts for less than 5% of the riding i do. I would consider myself a Aggressive XC / AM rider that goes the distance to get in as many trails as possible in a single ride, for this type of riding the Honzo is dialed in at 120mm. I have heard many people say 120mm is all you need for agressive 29er riding, yet i still wonder what 140mm would feel like. Anyone out there reading this ride a 140mm honzo? lend us your 2 cents!

Didn't really answer your question, 120mm on the Honzo makes DH still possible and i would say more than just OK. The real key is to keep the fork a little stiff and to go tubeless on a 2.3+ tire around 20-23 psi. That way the tire soaks up the small bumps and the fork can still handle big hits without bottoming out.

@Bryce72589 good insight on that tire pressure! Just picked up a Honzo about a month ago, but running tubes, so up at 34 on tire pressure to prevent pinch flats. My hands are in an endless world of hurt when it comes to brake bumps. Will make that switch over to tubeless with reduced pressure to at least reduce the pain.
