First DH race

Was my first DH race ever. Screwed up a couple of times. Yes I know I'm slower than a snail.

Hey, not bad! Seriously, not even bad for your first race. Mine wasn't even better....it was wet and more gnarly than this but...I ate crap and went over the bars several times over the weekend. On the top part of the course look further down the course, it'll help you go faster. That was my biggest problem on my first race, i was nervous and scared about not being able to hit everything, and looked more right in front of my tire than anything else. If you look further down, you'll see what's coming up and it gives you more time to relax and weight the bike appropriately. Also, you should only one finger brake...jacking on the brakes out of fear or whatever gives you lots of arm pump, making it much harder to finish up the course.

I'm used to using two fingers on the bars from moto so arm pump isn't really an issue. And yes I do know that I need to look forward more, it's just so hard to break the habit. It was really loose and dry and there were tons of ruts that just wanted to grab you and take you where you didn't want to go. I was just happy to make it to the bottom. I wasn't to bad in practice but something just came loose in my head during my race run and it just didn't go as good as it could have gone.

you will get there man heres a video from my first race www.pinkbike.com/video/294550
dont think it can get much worse than that, just next time let off the brakes and just go for it and keep riding and getting more comfortable on your bike

@bronco82 I hear ya on the race run nervousness. I made it down in just under 4 minutes in practice my first race, didn't fall once. Race run it was just over 5 mins...crashed in almost every section, but just got up and kept going. And yeah, I'm terrible with watching the course and relaxing too.

@jakerich49 That wasn't even bad. You were pretty pinned through some of the sections...I was cracking up in the beginning when you had to get your chain free!

@parkourfan yeah had to have been the worst feeling, being on the block ready to then you realize your chains not on

I just didn't want to crash. My confidence isn't really high but it's getting better. I don't think I'll race the next one but that's because of a money issue. I know most of the correct technique for riding, but putting it into action is where the problem is. I just need to practice more.

Good job! You made it down and finished the race! Better than a scratch or a DNF! Beer

Keep working at it and hope to see you out there again!

Yeah, fast in a straight line over rocks. But add a downhill to that straight rocky line and the shit hits the fan.
