 Nice. I ran a bike team for almost 13 years starting back in 2000 and most of what you said is very true especially for new and upcoming riders. The "sponsor me just because" attitude gets you no where... fast and knowing how to act professional and represent your sponsors in a good light is KEY to maintaining your support over time.
Three shinning examples of this would be trials/stunt rider Hans Rey, who's been with GT well over 23 years, the Atherton racers and Aaron Chase who recently parted with C-dale after a solid 17 years with the company.

Simply put, hard work and dedication does in fact pay off.
