Oh and what this video doesn't show is the emotions after Lauren grabbed her goal. Everyone ran down the course to congratulate her and there were a lot of tears of joy, from women and men (I was sobbing). Everyone felt the importance of this feat.

I had posted this comment on Facebook, but wanted to share it here on Pinkbike. I attended the Sugar Showdown event as a coach and a rider. The most amazing thing happened. My friend Lauren Patterson , after 3 years of hard work, finally attained her goal of landing a backflip to dirt. I'm so proud of her and I know that the entire women's riding community who witnessed it, shares the same sentiment. This moment was absolutely inspiring and it reminded me that even though sometimes people don't understand why I love to jump and push my limits, that it doesn't matter because only I can know what's important to me and I should always continue to pursue what I love! Thanks so much for the inspiration Lauren! And big thank you to Kat Sweet for being the face and leader in these events. It invigorates my soul to see girls and women of all ages come together and push themselves in their own way in such a supportive environment.
