I'd like to mention that this was shot right after we got the new suspension all dialed in on the new Ibis HD5. I'm on the Ibis marketing manger's personal HD5, set up with a stock Ibis Traction Tune Fox fork and shock. We were able to get plenty of damping for my "send it" riding style dialed in while remaining well within the parameters of that stock tune, and that button on the left side of the handlebar is tied in to the Motion Instruments telemetry system, allowing for markers to be placed on the data log. Normally I use a Trust Shout fork on this bike, which is also an awesome set up, but for the first ride on the new rig, Ibis wanted me to try to the stock set up. I'm glad I did, as it was a SUPER FUN configuration!

A little background on the trail from an old B'ham guy... the trail was built way back in the days of fully rigid bikes and was much rootier and technical, which on a rigid bike with canti brakes and a locked seat post up yer arse for the climb up, is down right freaky - hence the name "Double Black Diamond." It was never meant to refer to a bike park style rating for huge sends and such. Regardless, B'ham is our mecca enjoy it to the fullest all!!

Looks great. That trail does not look like a double black though. At least not a North Shore double. Am I missing something?

That's kinda funny- the trail is literally called "Double Black", though it's only rated single black. I'd say it's more of a Canadian blue level trail though. Fun and fast, but not gnarly.

@JeffWeed: next time you come up the I-5 through the Pacific Hwy crossing into Canada to ride the Shore, Vedder, etc. Let me know and I'll buy you a coffee/beer... A little payback for all the great videos you send our way.
