Octane One 2011

A few years ago NS Bikes decided to launch a new brand of frames and components that were designed to be strong, functional and affordable. The aim was to offer components that were not as sophisticated as NS Bikes and would allow riders to build nice bikes without having to spend a fortune.

This season Octane One is stepping up one notch and the whole line has been seriously revamped and pumped up with some high end features, colours and designs. The prices however stayed on the same level which is a very good news for everyone looking for some fresh and yet affordable components.

Brand new Octane One Spark frames during 2011 photoshoot

This small revolution began in the frames department. From this year there is a new frame dedicated for street and park appropriately named the Spark.

photo
Octane One Spark - street and park dedicated frame designed for 24" wheels.

This is great news for all 24” wheels enthusiast as the Spark's frame geometry is designed for 24" wheels only. It’s a perfect choice for low travel suspension forks (60-100mm) or rigid forks. The frame features medium front-end length, short compact rear end with a high BB. The head angle is quite steep – perfect for quick handling and easy front wheel tricks. The chain stays will let you adjust the rear wheel position within the 365-381mm range. The Sparks head tube is designed to work with an integrated headset and comes with a standard threaded BB shell so you can easily fit your favorite mountain bike cranks. With simple & straight seat stays and small dropouts w/o a derailleur hanger and cable guides you get weight saving and perfect clean look. Custom butted tubes beefed up in the stress areas keep weight low and strength high. An additionally reinforced top tube / seat tube junction is tough enough to survive abuse from tailwhips and 360’s.

In 2011 we can also get a new version of Void frame which comes with more dirt oriented geometry and is designed especially for 26” wheels and some brand new colors and finishes. The BB is lowered for more stability, and to fit higher forks with more travel. At the same time the frame gets a slightly steeper head angle for quicker handling. The rear end is compact and short and you adjust the rear wheel position within the 379-395mm range. The head tube is designed to work with integrated headsets. The seat tube extension over the top tube has been shortened and the frame has an integrated seat post clamp. The frame has no V-brakes mounts that would mess with the clean look, and the Void comes with disk brake mounts and fit rotors up to 185mm.

Same as in the Spark frame the custom butted tubes have been beefed up in the stress areas keep weight low and strength high. Similar to last year’s model the new Void has been made from high quality double butted 4130 cro-mo steel making it a really strong frame.

To match Void and Spark frames, the Orbital hubs are now also available in brand new colors and finishes. Everyone will find something suitable for their riding style - from casette to single speed hubs which are also offered in premium versions.

The handlebar range has been also extended. All round 25.4 and 31.8 Chemical handlebars made from 6061 butted alloy will now be joined by a high-end Chemical Pro 31.8 bar.

Octane One Chemical 31.8 handlebars - width 710mm, weight 380g

New Chemical Pro 31.8 handlebars were specifically designed for 4x, Slopestyle, Freeride and Downhill. They are strong enough to take hardcore beating but light enough to be used for racing. Made from butted 7075 aluminium, with low rise are really wide (770mm) and come with stylish shape.

As we all know, wide bars provide more leverage and make the bike stable and easier to control at higher speeds. A lot of backsweep makes them feel comfortable. The new bars feature amazing price to quality ratio.

In the crank department the very popular 3 pcs and 3 pcs Pro models continue unchanged in matching colors.

Octane One 3PCS PRO premium cromoly crank set

This year’s new addition is the 2pcs crank which will weight only 800g without BB.

The lightest & strongest Octane One tubular cromoly crankset comes in a popular & trendy two piece format. Designed as a complete set dedicated for MTB frames with unique external bottom bracket included. Comes with strong Spanish BB 19mm bearings in external alloy cups and the result is wider and stiffer system w/o weight penalty.

D2 aluminum cranks are a fresh addition to Octane One 2011 product line. They are durable, good looking and lightweight ISIS type crank sets made from super strong aluminum 7050.

A perfect choice for dirt, park, street, 4x, slopestyle & freeride where low weight and durability is essential. D2 comes with two chainrings - 22T & 32T protected by strong & light transparent polycarbonate guard.

This year we will also have plenty to choose from in the saddles and seatposts department. The Pivotal and standard seatposts will be accompanied by the Rocker and the Pivotal seats as well as the super light Nylon pivotal seatpost.

It will also be possible to get a Combo integrated seat. This super light & clean looking 1 piece seat-post combo will feature slim padding and micro suede cover. Constructed of a plastic base and connected with aluminum 25.4mm post. This results in very competitive weight & price comparing to any standard set of seat + post.

With all these new parts and components it would be a real shame not to promote them by having some skilled riders involved. That is why this year the Octane One factory team was joined by a skilled rider from UK – Blake Samson. Along with Pawel “Turbo” Turno and Filip Soczynski from Poland they will be representing the brand during top events across the Europe in the upcoming season.

Over the years he worked his way over to the elite and got great results in competitions like Vienna Air King, UK King of Dirt, Masters of Dirt, 26 Trix and many more. 2011 season will be no different and with support from Octane One, Fox Forks MOJOUK, Halo wheels, Gusset parts, Animal Clothing, Skull Candy, OGIO bags, Mercedes-Benz Vito sport the things are looking bright.

I'm always amazed how such dull products like a rigid frame or a set of handlebars can be made to look so desirable through fantastic photography. Hopefully, as they say the price will be great and the "boutique" look wont have a boutique price.

 That's called Marketing!

Everything I've bought from Octane has weighed a ton
  • 6 1
My octane cranks are quite heavy however they were cheap and serve me well. Low central weight doesn't matter too much anyway. My 2010 void frame is a very reasonable weight for the strength and price it offers and I've found the warp integrated headset outstanding. Also, those bars featured above were 380g - which I wouldn't describe as weighing a tonne and those new saddles must weigh almost nothing at all. So really I don't think Octane One have a weight issue at all when you take into consideration the price. If they made them lighter that would mean spending more money on the production and materials resulting in more exspensive parts. And the whole point of this company is to bring the best elements of NS Bikes parts for less money, rather than form a second top-of-the-line company.

Yeah but that fram only costs 180 quid so I'm definitely thinking about one
  • 4 1
 Basically NS but cheeper Smile

  • 3 2
 but they look sick!
  • 4 0
I have a feeling that a lot of these parts are just re-branded...
  • 1 0
probably, and you'll probably pay less than the original product.
  • 1 1
no, the prices are more or less the same - retail on the octanes is £75, and retail on new hussefelts is £83, HOWEVER, the hussefelts now use the howitzer bb which IMO is a much better design than the old/standard "ISIS" (howitzer has the same splines but uses outboard bearings - better at spreading torque, longer lasting) so aside from the bling anodising, the truvativs are better.

Dear ExtremeMountainBiking society, do you think with my height of 190cm (3.3ft) I can use the Void One 3.0 frame comfortably for dirt riding while not looking like a monkey on a grindstone? Thanks alot guys, great job, marketing and layout, really.
  • 2 0
190cm is not even close to 3.3ft, it's closer to 6.3 ft.
  • 1 0
Sorry, that was a slip of a pen.

i'd say its too short for you mate. i'm 6 foot 1 and compared to my ns suburban it feels ridiculously short. its got a higher bb too which doesn't really help if youre tall
  • 1 0
no i have the octane one void 3.0 2010 and it feels amazing you would pass out on the most amazing dj bike on the market it feels soo nice and easy to do a 360 you dont even have to try hard if you know what i mean and i am a big f*ck =P 6'4 about 250 pounds yeah that bike is good for me just saying
  • 1 0
yeah at the end of the day it comes down to personal preference. I'm 6'1 about 200lbs and for me the octane one void feels too short and upright (21.6" TT i think and 26 wheels). But then I went from an STP to a suburban which are both reasonably roomy with lower BBs.
  • 1 0
yeah but other then that its a pretty good bike not going to lie and even at the moment apprently my bike is 30 pounds which i dont belive but it doesnt even matter because it doesnt even feel that heavy and its just easy to do a 360 i havent done a tail whip yet on them becasue i was to scared to bash my rear wheel =P if i messed up hahahaha
  • 1 0
 i am 1.83 tall
will de the 2012 void okay for me??
  • 1 0

 awesome products, great idea.

Why so angry loaded? Gooose-frabaaa inhale goooosfrabaaaa. If you would read into what i wrote, you would find some info on companies like Dartmoor and Superstar Components sitting very well in that segment... people are very nostalgic and romantic when it comes to closure of such companies like Race Face, they very rarely realize these have hard time to a big extent due to such initiatives like Octane One. Cheap mass production shyte kills small quality oriented companies...
  • 1 0
Are they still 100% post-weld heat treated?
