This coming May Long weekend (May 18th - 20th) marks the fourth annual Peel Out Mountain Bike Event in Williams Lake, BC (affectionately known as the Puddle to locals). Last year a whole fleet of us from the Fraser Valley made the trek north to take in a weekend of goodness in the Cariboo Region of BC, more specifically, Williams Lake. The Puddle has been a go to riding area for over 20 years (think early Kranked and NWD videos) as it has such unique and varying terrains for biking. Local shop, Red Shreds, has been there for it all and they were our host for the weekend as we took in the 2012 Peel Out last season.
Folks came from all over the region to partake in the weekend and we weren't the only group from the lower mainland as we ran into a lot of familiar faces over the course of 3 days. The first event on tap for the weekend was the Fox Mountain downhill race. Fox Mountain is located on the east side of town and offers some of the easiest access shuttles around and all trails are guaranteed to leave you smiling.
Sunday saw everyone heading over to Westsyde for the Super D event. The trails found on Westsyde are longer than those on Fox and the terrain lends itself a little more to an AM bike, but you can still bring your DH ride too, as it's a "run what you brung" kinda race.
Once the racing has all wrapped up, it'll be time to head to the Peel Out Party. Be ready to dance and have a good time as the locals know how to get down.
What May Long is complete without a little camping and hanging out by the fire? Camp fires have brought folks together since the dawn of time and the Puddle is no different. We camped just outside of town and it was a great way to relax after a hard day on the bikes. Plus we all enjoyed the lake a few times during our stay - despite the cold early season temps in the water.
