to bad that in my area whenever you try to build a good mtb trail the community service crew always turns it down.

Same here. Problem is, people who aren't into the sport will never really understand.

Yeah where I ride people think mountain bikers are just a bunch of missfits out to ruin everyone's day. We maintain thoes trails so the hikers can use them, no appreciation.

 I hear ya'!!!!
Here, tons of new, legal trails are being built in-town (with tax payer money) by people who have no idea what the F they're doing. Don't get me wrong... I'm totally happy there's new trail; however, whenever I offer to help building trail (fun/flow), I'm given the cold-shoulder. The city is totally open to new trails and biking, but ONLY if you go through a couple of XC dorks who don't know what they're doing. My best-bet is to spend my nights in the Spring running around with headlamps, chainsaw, and shovels making changes to what they did, and hoping there isn't a game camera in a tree somewhere. That only compounds the problem because riders compliment the trails that these clowns "built."

I was building what would be an epic trail on the side of this hill near my house. I brought sandbags, wood, all that stuff to the spot. Then one day when I went over there it was all gone, everything, gone. There just isn't anywhere to build in SoCal anymore...

Yup. Where I live the local government shuts down legal trail building, then riders who are sick of riding the 4 trails we have build illegally on public land, then the city council goes "SEE! Look at the bad, very bad mountain bikers ruining nature with their dangerous trails!"

You've got to organize and work through an advocacy group (a club). Sorry boys, that's the way it is.

I joined the local club and theyre a bunch of older (50+) XC guys who are super receptive to new ideas. If I help maintain their favorite trails and improve them, they help build and maintain mine. One hand washes the other.

What schofell84 said. There has been a lot of success in Washington through the organization of groups like Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance, WMBC, Friends of Capitol Forrest and others. We all advocate local, state and federal government as well as private land owners to get access and funds. It's hard work but pays off, there is a lot of new trail going in over the next several years.

Our old fart president thinks were getting a machine built flow trail this year. Zero to a hunnit real quick! hahaha Get involved. Most bikers like beer and things. Its good.

I was helping maintain/rebuild some of my local trails 2 weeks ago after the rain when some older a$$hole came flying down the trail and yelled at us for being in the way. The trail even had a warning at the top, it's stuff like that I will never understand. It's okay because shortly after, Troy Lee came climbing up and thanked us for our work. At least some people get it.

MTB access in the part of California where this was shot absolutely sucks. Besides the demo forest, l there are few hold-out of legal legitimately technical riding. As a temporary Colorado transfer, I hope this video encourages local riders to speak up for their right to ride in regional parks and work with local officials to build legal trails that do the terrain justice. Without trail advocacy you will be stuck riding your full enduro bikes on the buffed out singletrack and fire roads. Might as well start wearing spandex and take up road riding.......

Heyyyyy, why you gotta bash road biking??? XD. I agree though, where I live, no one builds trails even though no one cares if you build a nice line on public land. Really just a lack of mountain bikers in the area.

What SloMoBro lacks in trail etiquette, dietary knowledge, forethought in planning, and just general seemingly obvious common sense he makes up for in steeze, overall riding skill, and a consistently bangin playlist. i like this guy....

ooooh, the sidewalk tamper, IMBA's fav trail building tool
  • 1 2
My favorite, I also like the small skid steers I see on our trails doing "maintenance" mowing down the sagebrush on either side of our already lame singletracks... And yea that was a sidewalk stamper he first passed...
