Trek World Racing Confirms Roster for 2015 Season

Dec 1, 2014
by Pinkbike Staff
World #9, Brook MacDonald clearly demonstrated that he has returned to form after his shoulder surgery by ending the 2014 season with a great 5th place at the World Championships as well as scoring 2 World Cup podiums in Leogang and Windham.

Brook MacDonald fears no rocks. Ever. The Bulldog was blazing throught the rock garden today.

I ve known Brook MacDonald since he was racing MS Evil back in 2011. Since then he s gone from a devil may care wild man to a more focused racer but still a wild man when the chips are down. Fort William 2014.

Brook is joined by compatriot George Brannigan, the current New Zealand National Champion who showed his growing potential in 2014 with a World Cup podium in Leogang, an 8th in Windham and by seeding 7th at the World Championships. Scottish rider Greg Williamson also returns after his best World Cup season to date. Greg scored two 9th places in Fort William and Méribel and for the 2nd year in a row scored a spot on Team GB for the World Championships.

George Brannigan has been looking heaps quick all weekend. Today he was fourth fastest in timed training.

Fourth fastest TT... not too shabby for George Brannigan continuing to prove himself upper crust material and particularly proving his knack for Hafjell. He likes nothing more than to teach a few rocks a lesson.

Greg Williamson slayed this mountain and was the fastest Trek making his second top ten this season.

The three elite riders are joined again by junior phenom Laurie Greenland who will next year race the full Junior World Cup circuit after having a great finish to the 2014 season scoring a silver medal at the World Championships, and his first ever World Cup podium in Méribel.

What a ride for Trek World Racing young gun Laurie Greenland. Greenland finished second and will be a force in 2015.

Neko Mulally has requested to leave the team in order to pursue other opportunities.

For 2015 the team will once again focus on the UCI World Cups as well as selected European events, basing themselves out of France. The team is returning to its usual roster of 4 riders and all will be racing the Shimano/Fox equipped Trek Session 9.9 650B which many times recorded the fastest speeds in the World Cup speed-traps throughout the 2014 season. The Session has scored more than 40 podiums since it starting racing World Cups back in 2009.

Next month sees the start of national racing on the New Zealand calendar with the highlight being the National Championships for Brook MacDonald and George Brannigan on February 14 and 15, a title that has been held by Trek World Racing riders for the past 3 years. This time it will be George Brannigan’s turn to defend the Championship.

With Laurie Greenland moving into the 2015 season carrying the ranking of number 1 junior in the World, and three talented elite riders all capable of World Cup podium results, it will be another strong year for the Trek World Racing program. More news on co-sponsors and new video releases will be announced during the remainder of the off-season.

"We want to thank Neko for all the hard work and good results" apparently not.

TWR is reaaaallly bad at this whole PR thing....

Whiteleys words......so no needs to worry....about a thank you...
  • 15 1
Kinda bad new for TWR that neko left , I think he will of realised his true potential with his chainless run and will be right up there next season.
  • 12 11
 That's because M.W. is a thankless douche
  • 27 4
What is really the problem here? What did you guys want Trek to do other than say thank you in the press release? Neko left the team and will sign somewhere else just like Danny Hart, Blenkinsop, and many others this off-season. It's a business, this is what happens when contracts are up.
  • 10 4
TWR should head on over to the Danny Hart interview here on PB, and read how the proper courtesy should be given.
  • 8 1
@sino428 : That is exactly the point....they didn't even say thank you.

The line about Neko leaving is dismissive and snarky. This is normal course of business in the sport, so why not handle yourself with class?
  • 5 4
First TWR makes the monumental blunder of pissing Gwin off, that he has to leave the team, now Neko is left with having to get out? It's apparent Trek needs to take over and stop the madness, no?

"We’ve always believed in investing in youth, and it’s brought great results for the team. Neko joined us as a 1st year junior and he’s matured over that half-decade and now has decided it’s time to move on, it’s his decision. We wish him well in this new chapter of his career and thank him for all his done for us over the past half-decade." Whitely from the Dirt interview. Should have been in this press release but no need to get all Fox News-conclusion jumping on it.

 @donch15
Unfortunately, this is just your view on the scenario and how you have chosen to view it.
You may be 100% right, but you might also be 100% wrong too.

For all we know, they could of had a massive party to celebrate his time at TWR?
I don't know, I wasn't there
  • 5 8
@Waldon83 : That is not even close to being an accurate statement and is completely nonsensical.

We, as consumers of the news and information, can only infer from what is being implied by the press release. TWR chose the information to include in it's press release, therefore we are left to surmise that they are not pleased with Neko's departure based on the information THEY CHOSE to provide.

This is how this works. It is not, "my view on the scenario" but rather a logical conclusion based on the implied tone and information provided in the press release. Use your head, you'll get it.

The least TWR could do is throw a parade in Neko's honor. Such d*cks over there.
  • 3 1
they wrote one sentence about Neko in the press release and now He is all the comments section is talking about. haha
  • 2 2
 @donch15
All you did was read an article, and then made assumptions based on the information provided.
Don't believe everything you hear or read in the news, that's my advice.
  • 3 1
@Waldon83 : Again...this isn't an article, it is a PRESS RELEASE directly from the team. That's a very different thing.

It's a complicated concept, I know.
  • 69 0
What? I didn't make the team again?
  • 9 2
Neither did I... very dissapointed but hey, atleast i still have pinkbike!
  • 7 2
With a name like that, you will never make it on a team.

"Neko Mulally has requested to leave the team in order to pursue other opportunities."

...And we would like to thank him for 5 years of hard work and making your world champs run go viral and give us tons of exposure? And being pretty much the top rider on the team for the past two season? Hmmmmm...

But his crashes make me cringe lol!

The dudes such a f*cking bruiser , a few seasons back he had a horrific crash at windham on the rocks and just jumped back on and carried on ,I would of been a crying , bleeding pile of broken bones ..

I think that's why I like him so much. The man is an absolute Trojan.

 Absolute bulldog.

I'd put money on Neko headlining the new Intense roster. The American brand did promise top 5 talent a few months back, and while Neko is not a consistent top 5 finisher, I'd qualify him as a top 5 contender. Also, Neko being a solid American contender has a certain patriotic appeal. I'm stoked for him if this is true, he will benefit both financially and by building his reputation as a star.
  • 2 2
 That would be great !
Since Intense stopped producing the M9 I assume they will be riding that beautiful 650B DVO 951 ! Big Grin

I see a lot of hate on here about TWR's one sentence referring to Neko's departure but I found this quote from Martin Whiteley "We’ve always believed in investing in youth, and it’s brought great results for the team. Neko joined us as a 1st year junior and he’s matured over that half-decade and now has decided it’s time to move on, it’s his decision. We wish him well in this new chapter of his career and thank him for all his done for us over the past half-decade." So yeah, they could've handled it better in this release but they are not being complete jerks.

It seems Trek picks up young up and coming riders until they grow into big contenders, then they move on until eventually Specialized picks them up while they're in their prime. Of course there are exceptions, and Neko isn't on Specialized right now, but this seems like it's turning into a trend.
  • 10 6
Damn, Neko gone. Please do not go with the big S
