They've been in the making for the past 2 years and at the World Championships at Mont St. Anne, Quebec, Truvativ unveiled their Descendant cranks for all to see. BlackBox riders Sam Hill, Brendan Fairclough, Steve Peat, Greg Minnaar and Marc Beaumont were all in attendance and even had a few of their bikes on display showing off the new release.

Obviously the first thing Truvativ focused on is reducing weigh. By going with OCT they were able to considerably reduce the weight of their crankset. Case in Point – right now Shimano Saints are the lightest freeride crankset weighing in at 1164 grams. The next target Truvativ had were the Race Face Diabolus crankset which weighs in at 1310 grams. These weighs are for the full system – e.g. double chainring, bashguard, and BB system.
The new Holzfeller OCT crankset system: 1124 grams. System includes the Howitzer Team BB and 22/32/bash ring setup. Not a huge weigh difference when compared to the Saint crankset, but every little bit counts!
Another Gravity Light I think & not a Saint or Atlas FR rival.
Something essentially JUST like this article from many moons ago

Showed that the Sram cranks back then were the toughest crap around, but they did come with quite a weight penalty.
Wrote about it here if anyone is interested: a href="http://www.ridemorebikes.com/clear-taping-cranks/">http://www.ridemorebikes.com/clear-taping-cranks//a>
So the Saint´s are the pullet proofe choice.
But these look promising! i migth go for the second gen.
Nice cranks, looks so clean.
you make very little sense

pretty good pricing hopefully they will be good, however I still think shimano will continue to control the crank market
still, a nice price, much cheaper than saint
I did some weight comparisons of competitive cranks a lil bit ago
Crank Arm BB Total
Hozzle OCT 565 400 965
Saint OLD 910 95 1005
Saint NEW 760 95 855
Raceface 720 126 846
XT (for whitetux) 594 81 675 clearly AM will be lighter
If these are really 240 grams lighter than the old OCTS than their claimed weight must include chain ring and bolts I guess, I'll wait for measured weights first.
And also, just because parts have been tested at WC level doesn't necessarily mean they last. My RaceFace Atlas Fr started creaking after just under a year. I'm not buying them again.
