I heard they are basically just a re-badged Stylo. They look exactly the same (check out the Truvativ site)
  • 1 3
Except they will be a lot stronger seeing as the Stylo is an AM crank and this is designed for DH
  • 5 1
Designed for "DH race". I doubt they are a lot stronger. The arm looks identical to a Stylo...I wonder how they hold up to bike park abuse? Gravity Lights are DH crank too and we all know how durable those are...Time will tell how these hold up.

Have gravity lights had a lot pf problems?? I have them, and haven't had an issue. please inform me

I bent mine in two months on my P2. They are really soft. Off them while they aren't bent and buy some Race Face Atlas.

right on thanks for the info man.

The Mission was to design the lightest and strongest freeride crankset system on the planet. Not just the cranks, but the entire system including the spindle, BB, bearings, etc..
Obviously the first thing Truvativ focused on is reducing weigh. By going with OCT they were able to considerably reduce the weight of their crankset. Case in Point – right now Shimano Saints are the lightest freeride crankset weighing in at 1164 grams. The next target Truvativ had were the Race Face Diabolus crankset which weighs in at 1310 grams. These weighs are for the full system – e.g. double chainring, bashguard, and BB system.

The new Holzfeller OCT crankset system: 1124 grams. System includes the Howitzer Team BB and 22/32/bash ring setup. Not a huge weigh difference when compared to the Saint crankset, but every little bit counts!

Looks exactly like Truvativ's Stylo crank.
  • 2 0
I wouldn't be surprised if they were Stylos.
  • 2 0
those are just boxxers that, i think. only the pros have because they are testing out the black outer coating on the stanctions. pretty sure. but the one on the gt fury with the red and chrome is legit

Its just a re-badged Stylo with the granny ring tabs blanked off. It might be 'strong enough' for a couple of race runs, but a season in the Bike Park is another matter.
Another Gravity Light I think & not a Saint or Atlas FR rival.

not! its an all new crank

I have been riding these cranks for a few weeks now and im really impressed. The 165's have very little flex and the new BB is nice, similar to a Chris King. All of the new 2011 Sram stuff is mint, they stepped their game up this year

hmmm maybe with the new E-13/hive cranks and these cranks it would be cool to see some strength tests to see what bang for the gram you get for each set.

Something essentially JUST like this article from many moons ago
www.pinkbike.com/news/SRAM-2007-Freeride-product-preview-Truvativ.html

Showed that the Sram cranks back then were the toughest crap around, but they did come with quite a weight penalty.

I'm running the Descendants this season. Always keen to try out a new product. Being weary of how much the finish "polishes" off of Truvativ cranks though I covered them in 3m tape. It was either that or watch TV when it was snowing.. Cost me like $2 to do and took maybe ten minutes.

Wrote about it here if anyone is interested: a href="http://www.ridemorebikes.com/clear-taping-cranks/">http://www.ridemorebikes.com/clear-taping-cranks//a>

I've got Saints on my DJ bike, easy set up, never a problem with them. I run a 40 tooth on them. My Atlas FR cranks look really cool in red and matched the rest of my goodies on my MARIN Team DH (yes, i have one), but were a pain in the ass to set up with the 4000 spacers and pressed on drive side. Then to add to the fun, align a chain guide set up with a crank that's not convienient to take on and off. Not alot of fun, don't care what the weight savings is. Then I have Truvativ OCT 1.1 with a howitzer bb, pure and simple. bombproof. The set up was super smooth, and no problems on the DH bike. The Atlas cranks have required numerous tightenings to keep from creeking.

Would be interested in getting a set of these and putting them side by side with the stylos I already use on the DH bike and compare. New crank choice is either these or SLX... best bang for the buck IMO!

Was thinking about getting OCTs to replace my non-octs but now i'm pretty sold on these. The price is very competitive and the support is unbeatable. Though I can't really say i've ever hand an issue with the holzfellers....
  • 1 0
ive replaced 5 truvativ BB's from bearings wearing out. i've replaced 1 gravity. No shimano, no race face, and my CK is still running strong. wonder in truvativ can fix the bbs.
  • 1 0
I will go for stiffness and strength any day.
So the Saint´s are the pullet proofe choice.

But these look promising! i migth go for the second gen.
  • 2 0
take it these are the 2011 boxxers on show aswel? prefer the older ones for looks.
  • 1 0
185, looks like a pretty sweet price compared to some of the other cranks on the market
  • 2 0
 that carbon v10 looks mean
  • 1 0
seems like downhill rings are going back up in size... i wonder when having a 40t will be cool again?
  • 1 0
 i have a 40 tooth lmao
  • 1 0
im stoked on these they are cheap and they are short just what i need for need.
  • 1 0
no, the 2011 boxxer are this (www.sram.com/rockshox/category/113), i guess.

Nice cranks, looks so clean.
  • 1 0
2011 boxxers are already out. They dont have the black stantions, the only visible difference between them and the 2010's will be the top caps are slightly different. That and the team is now the R2C2. Internals are tweeked on the compression/rebound leg.
  • 1 0
 Yes, I know...
  • 1 0
Hopefully they don't bend when you look at them wrong (like Gravity Lights)
  • 2 0
Loving the South African flag on Greg's bashguard. Lekker! Big Grin
  • 1 0
how is this any different than their holzfeller model? they list absolutely no features to this crank
  • 2 0
I like em, clean purposeful and straightforward looking cranks. Very nice.
  • 2 0
I would take Race face Atlas FR over these
  • 1 0
wait so are these cranks really 822g with the bb or without?
  • 1 0
Good point. 822g with bb or without? With chainring or without? What arm length and spindle length?
  • 1 0
with 36t chainring, 165mm arms, not too sure on the rest of the details
  • 1 0
What does black box rider mean?
  • 2 0
They test prototype parts on WC tracks Smile
  • 1 0
"Blackbox" is SRAM's name for their team-only development program. Kinda like a hush hush, Skunk Works style prototyping stage for some SRAM products before they fine tune them enough for consumer use.
  • 1 1
i saw 3 bikes with 3 different color of boxxer stanchion .. likin the color on gt fury,, its chrome or what?
  • 2 0
uhm all the new boxxers (for the blackbox riders only) have black coating... those 3 bikes above have the same colour of stanchions(black)
  • 2 0
DLC, Diamond-Like Carbon. Works in the same vein as Kashima and Ti-Nitride coatings (reduce friction in moving parts). DLC and Kashima are more commonly used in MX, usually in tandem.
  • 1 0
me no likey, their BB are bad, always had problems with them.
  • 1 0
How much different is the new bb and will it last longer than previous iterations? Older versions did not last very long imho.
  • 1 0
if i brake them in less than one mouth, can i get all my money back?
  • 1 0
Fuck Shitmano they can go eat a dick!
  • 1 0
Just got mine on Friday, Descendants and they held up already to one day of downhilling and jumping. Easy to install, light on the scale and wallet. check it out: freedirt.posterous.com/descendant-cranks-from-truvativ-my-first-look
  • 1 1
do the 2011 boxxers have bigger stantions?
  • 1 1
specialized and gt are look mighty simaller..
  • 1 0
 very nice bikes:O
  • 1 0
 no steel pedal insert?
  • 1 1
They have an insert for the pedals.
  • 1 0
i know this is gonna sound like a really stupidd question but what is a pedal insert?
  • 3 0
On aluminum cranks meant for heavy use crank manufacturers often insert steel pedal threads into the crank instead of cutting the threads right into the aluminum so that it is much less likely to strip.
  • 1 1
they have never had an insert
  • 2 0
who's they? what are you talking about?
you make very little sense
  • 1 0
@whitetux: Really, I have 2 different sets of cranks from Truvativ and they have inserts just like my Saints.
  • 1 0
i used to have a pair of holzfellers and they had no inserts
  • 1 1
 finally truvativ makes something hollowtech
  • 1 0
except that they havent... hollowtech is the name of shimano's hollow crankarms which is similar to truvativ's oct hollow cranks (which these cranks arn't), do you mean external bottom bracket? becasue truvativ make made cranks that use that for ages
  • 2 4
Aesthetics alone are enough to sell me, balllin.
  • 5 1
Really? I think they look really plain and boring, like lower end stock cranks. I think Atlas cranks look 100x better.
  • 2 0
atlas cranks are already available if you need a specific color for your cranks.
