Gwin, Stevie, Rat Boy, tom666's countryman Gee, Minaar, Bruni, etc etc etc, they all think they are the fastest and best there is, that's exactly why they go to compete at this level. Gee, Stevie, Gwin have all proved it with dominating seasons, 2 consecutive history making seasons in Gwin's case, and these types of personalities will always be up at the top. Look at the retrospective video of last seasons WC series, talking with Stevie and Gee about their seasons. Many guys bagged on Gee for his seriousness and over competitiveness, no smiling and pursed lips, and loved Stevie because he was the new "laid back" guy. But you watch that video and you'll see that number one the two of them had HUGE respect for one another because they know what it takes to get it done at that level, and also that they both have the seriousness and fire in their eyes when they're talking about racing and winning, period. Look at Stevie's training, or any of the top guys, and you'll see how serious they all take it, and how much confidence they have in themselves. Gone are the beer swilling bro days at the races fellas, like it or not, to much at stake and the margin for error is way too small now, the field isn't 6 deep anymore for guys with a legit chance of winning with a couple of wild cards who could win if luck god their way, it's 20 deep for guys with a legit shot every race, with another 20 or 30 wild cards who could lay one down if conditions and luck go right. Just enjoy the action, because we might be seeing a real golden age right now.
However, he went on to not win a single race in the 2013 world cup series, having claimed he was the best in the world before the series start. Is that confidence, or is that arrogance?
I personally have a lot more respect for a humble athlete than somebody who thinks he is better than he is.
But why isn't Video Of The Month VOM?
