2015 Dunbar Summer Series

Cycling BC has released the 2016 DH BC Cup Calendar and with it a few updates to their program too. 2016 looks to be one of the strongest BC Cup series to date and it will all start with a staple of the series, Race the Ranch on May 29th at the Kamloops Bike Ranch. Those that have been training this winter on and off their bike will definitely have the advantage going into round one and be the favourite to post the fastest times. To help you plan your summer travel I have laid out the full BC Cup race schedule below. Whether you are a racer, parent or a spectator, you will have a great weekend from start to finish at every round!

2016 BC Cup Calendar:
Kamloops Bike Ranch I May 29th 2016 I Kamloops
Kicking Horse Mountain Resort I July 3rd 2016 I Golden
Panorama Mountain Resort I July 17th 2016 I Invermere
Sun Peaks Resort I July 24th 2016 I Kamloops
Silver Star Bike Park I August 7th 2016 I Vernon
Fernie Alpine Resort I August 28th 2016 I Fernie

Registration for all events will be through CCNbikes.com.

As I build the series into one of the best, I’ve had to make small changes to the series as I move it forward. Not everyone will like every change, but you must understand that I really want the BC Cup series to not only be fun, exciting and well run, but I want it to mean something, not only to those that win, but the sponsors that support the series and racers alike. Since being involved in BC Cup racing since 2008, the BC Series has increased prizing, event exposure, decreased registration wait times and introduced improvements such as seeding runs, women only practice times, Saturday night events like whip offs and long jumps and champagne with oversized checks on the podiums. We can’t rest there. I need to make the changes below as one step for 2016 towards 2017 when we invest even more on what winning the BC Cup overall means. Winning the BC Cup overall should be a very proud moment for the racer, parent and sponsors and the award, recognition and exposure should reflect it. For 2017, I’m planning on a solid investment from Cycling BC, SE Racing, and sponsors to ensure that the BC Cup Series is the best DH series in Canada and I hope everyone will continue to support the series as we work towards this goal.

~The 2016 series winners will be awarded based on their best 5 out of 6 events - The series finals in Fernie are not mandatory.
~All UCI licensed riders are eligible to win the BC Cup overall as you do not need to reside in BC to win the BC Cup overall.
~Seeding runs will be offered at each event and will determine start order for your race run, but will not count towards series overall points.
~Awards for the overall will be given to the winners in all licensed categories, special awards will be handed out for first place in Junior Ex, Elite Men and Elite Women at the Cycling BC awards dinner in the fall of 2016.

I tried to enter with my prototype "Tetrahedron" bike, you know, my 3 wheeled dominator with no brakes. The one Gwin walked out on, but hey, whatever, I'm not sour. But they wouldn't let me enter. Words like "unsafe" and "this is landscape equipment" were tossed around. Let's say I'm disappointed.

There's always next year.

Unsafe we ride mountain bikes that word itself is unsafe

@nukeproof88 Exactly, they're marginalizing me due to fear of innovation and progress. Why have 2 wheels, when you can have 3? And it's a race isn't it? Brakes are silly.

 No whistler??

The fucked up the last one they had

@kieran-nnilsen Whistler is BC Champs on the last weekend on June, but not part of the BC Cup Series. A one off event like Worlds is for the World Cup.

Last year's Whistler event was basically a PHAT Wednesday with a much higher entry fee.

 @sexley

Is whistler the 25th-26th? I heard it was the weekend of the 18th

@sexley: is the race on the saturday? or the same format as every other BC Cups with the race on sunday?
  • 1 0
@Turqoise: no idea - sorry. Not part of the BC Cup Series and i've seen no information for this event yet. I would assume practice Sat and race on Sunday as thats what they did last year.

 Next year, Prevost! Im serious

It's hard to convince the mainland masses to deal with ferries. Mount Washinton had a killer race course, and usually had a much smaller field of racers.

Exley's events kill it, year after year, especially when you compare them to other races (*cough* Whistler *cough*). Things can only get better with him running the show!

Why is race the ranch still on the circuit, it has no place.

sure it does, great race to introduce people to the series and in a cool setting

Not the most technical course but the fast guys/girls still manage to win!? Much better organization compared to those Whistler f wads

Miffed at the 5/6. I think it's worth some input. It's very hard to make 5/6 with a busy summer

Then pick and choose the ones you want to do. It's way better to have a large circuit, where more people from more regions can catch the DH racing bug.
