Everyone says it. He didn't mean it in a derogatory way and you know that. Don't make it somthing it doesn't need to be. For me it added and brotherly/ friend vibe, because people say" hey fag" all the time. It's turned into a slang word for friend almost. Embrace that and you take away the power of people who use it for hate.
