Construction of the downhill course for the 2011 World Cup in Pietermaritzburg is well underway. Here are a few snap shots of the track building.

Look out for lots of off cambers, jumps and new rock gardens.

Not in all of Canada, dude. Stop making people think we drive ski-doos and live in igloos. You hip, your hip, your lovely sender hip.

in a dh race, why would anyone take the outside boost line on the hip. isnt that way slower

depends it might be but you cant tell till we see people riding it cause its a smaller gap if im right so might be but who know but if it is i know the cedric garcia will be hitting it

I prefer more natural "trails". Those new school "tracks", yes, they're fast, scary fast but I kind of dislike all the machines work around them and the lost of need technical skill needed to ride them. Today, most of the time, there's "the line" and to me those tracks bring far less creativity from the riders to express their own talents. I remember watching the WC guys ride the same trail as I rode 5 days a week and being stoked with their riding and the lines the rode!

I know, I'm 42 now. Things change!
Thanks for reading me though !

The approach onto those jumps looks like a long flat fireroad, really hope the course is made more tech and narrow this year .

.. actually, ignore that - just saw the approach to the gap jump in another photo

Yeah, one long slightly uphill fireroad Smile

Those jumps look sick, I wonder which lip Brendan will go for....Wink

Looking awesome Nigel... i will have some time next week to come and "crash" test some of those jumps for you.

@sup3rc0w - this approach is actually the landing from a 13m right hand hip as well so it will be VERY interesting - we have just built in a very tech rock section and off camber just above these jumps so the course will be fast and interesting all the way down.

Very excited about the race, just saw the other part of the article posted, looks mint!

Guys and Girls - please note - this is just the last 30 sec of the +/- 3.30 course. We have designed it to incorporate a bit of EVERYTHING .... rocks, roots, steep stuff, off cambers, jumps, and some pedalling (which wont be as much as last year)

Stay tuned for my next up load which i am busy with no for the top section.

Can't wait to see the whole trackwalk! Smile

Those gaps on race course are awesome for all racers. This is the place for those money shots! If you crashed before the gaps and you know damn well that you will not get a podium, get some styling points!!!

I love watching that races a this track. Its, how should I say, worldly. Its very tropical looking. Like its something different because many of the tracks look exactly the same.

Well then, use your muscles and build some nice dh courses man…
In fact, I believe you never been in Bento Gonçalves, RS, Brazil, have you? Come on over next march/2011, for the 2011 Gaucho State Series, then I’ll show one of the best dh trail on earth!

now thats what i call building
  • 1 0
More WC courses should build more senders like this for the spectators.
  • 1 0
Hey Skippy - thats EXACTLY why we built these - this area is the main spectator area (2min walk from the finish) and is the prime area for spectators as well as the camera positions - The UCI wants riding to look spectacular on Camera so we have put these in so the top guys will be doing in the region of 50km/h when they hit these and it will look insane on TV and still shots.
