Barry's Black Beast, or tale of the Intense Dorado.
Bike Mechanic to the Ditched and Blameless, Barry LeVoir at
Hardcore Bikes in Edmonton (almost) Finishes his dream DH build for 2009.My good friend and often hassled bike tech Barry, was a foot off the floor today as he was showing off the goods...his brand-spanking new Manitou Dorado. It came in this week, and he got to bolt it up to this fine, also brand new Intense M6, that had been the temporary home to his previous fork, the old school coil sprung Dorado of legend.
This M6 is so new, the custom Elka shock has yet to show up...it will be the very last piece of the puzzle...sigh.
This Dorado, according to the Manitou rep, is the fifth one in Canada so far, and there won't be many more for this model year. That's why I thought it would be cool to share these not so "spy" photos with you all, cause it ain't too often you'll see a Privateer bike with this much high-end hardware on it.
Check out the custom Gold Ano pivot bolts....buh-ling! And that extra bit of gold on the 2009 Saints fits right in.
Squishee, Squish, Squish. Feels a lot like a coil...but it isn't...and it's plenty stiff too.
It just plain looks fast, even while standing still.
Top notch wheel set and Tractor trailer brakes...what doesn't this bike have?...(besides a shock in the frame)...
The Dorado came with its own "gun case". When a fork has an MSRP of $4K Canadian...they better send you a damn case...
A very spartan, fighter plane cockpit, thanks to the E.13 direct mount stem. Looks like business.
Zero stack Cane Creek, I run this headset too. So underrated, simply well made. Check 'em out! That head badge says it all, but the braided hoses say it too...this is a fast, World Cup capable machine...
This is the kind of boutique beauty you're likely to see being assembled in the service stands at my home LBS,
Hardcore Bikes in Edmonton. E-town's very 1st ever mountain bike specific shop, celebrating 20 years of custom bike building this year. More than just a bike shop, it's the hub of our slice of the Alberta MTB community.

Shondo sent you!
Sick looking, yes, but I'm not sure about the Dorado from what I've seen... Hopefully for you this one will work just fine
hopefully get the elka soon
There's a joke about the riffle case the fork comes with: it's easy to pack your fork in and send it back for warranty, with no scratch during shipping... (just a joke...)
