 i think this is more funn then skiing.

 I think it would be fun to take my bike up the ski mountains in the winter but that might be frowned upon. I'd also get pretty weird looks...

 this is as much snow as we get in scotland if we're lucky!

 Cry me a river BenSawyer! The price you pay for amazing riding every spring/summer is 4' of snow in the winter. My local ride consists of a 'gnarly' canal tow path. Here in the UK we only have one season - wet, muddy and slippery as hell. Hence why we are the BEST RIDERS IN THE WORLD! (haha jokes)

 @mtnbkrforlife: I used to work at Timberline here on Mt. Hood (Oregon) and I can tell you that in a lot of cases you'd probably be asked NOT to or told to leave. Even if you're on a privately owned piece of land, the resort/lodge reserves the right to restrict access in most cases. We had a HUGE issue at T-ine with Sledders (couple pretty gnarly deaths too ) and esentially you're just a sledder with a way more dangerous sled when you're riding with Skiers/boarders (this is how they'd look at it, not commenting on anyone's riding ability) . It's all about risk mitigation and the insurance these places carry will usually not tollerate this kind of stuff as its very "specific" on usage. In the case of Timberline we were operating on Gov. land so they set the rules and were gain very "specific" about seasonal usage. Honestly I don't ow how much fun you;d have anyway, with as bad as the "groms goons and hoons" thing is these days on any ski hill in the US it's bad enough when you're on skis or a board, I can see things going downhill REAL quick when a ski goes through the spokes

@miketizzle: come over and "exerience" the Pacific Northwest if you want to see what wet and steep looks like I love the UK/Scotland but we're as rain soaked and mud cloged up here as anywhere in the UK. I feel for you guys though, all that moisture and no real snow or ski hills to speak of... that's brutal, snowboarding in Scotland is always "interesting" to say the least (I was born in Inverness). Look at it this way though, you guys may have wet riding for 4 seasons, but at least you've got 4 riding seasons (I know you were just givin the gears, didn't mean to make that sound like I was insulted or trying to insult you) I think there's a reason that we share a long history of some pretty dominating riders from both our regions aye, when you can ride in the wet greesey slop like we both experience the dry stuff just seems "simple" hahahahaha.

 you just have to know the right people. last season my buddy and i (he's the mtb trail manager at the mountain i ski at) convinced the head hancho to let us bring our rigs up in a snow cat and shred down. Threw some studs on and it was the best ride of my life. i think he got some footage i will try and find

 Got 2 magicshines for late fall riding... I plan on poaching local snowparks after they close the mountain. Can't wait to see if it's doable (and actually fun).

 PLC07, with 2 blazing night lights and no forest canopy you will stand out like a sore thumb to anybody who looks at the hill and thus you'll probably get caught by security. How will you outrun the security vehicle at the bottom of the hill? Just trying to save you some grief here

 Gotta love Aus. Can ride all year round. Though usually where it snows means epic trails in the summer.

 PLC07- def. possible. they've already had many slope comps. on snow and there have been people who have hit park setups on studded bikes. but really, anything new/different on your bike can't be anything but fun! haha, good luck!

 Yeah you can see the bottom part of the snowpark from the highway so ill have to poach the upper section only, lights or not, if I don't want to get caught. Im planning to park up top to avoid being seen at all. I think the woods are thick enough so the lights don't shine through. I'd prefere not using the lights but it would probably be too dark. The thing is that we don't get a lot of snow and there are a lot of people who ride there so it implies icy landings 24/7. I'm worried about traction a little and since I don't plan on going often I'm not sure I want to invest into studded tires. We shall see... I really want to try it at least once, I'll adjust from there.

I know what you mean about "knowing the right people" for sure, I was just pointing out that for the average person it becomes an issue of business and insurance. If you know the right people, go for it, but I just meant to shed some ight on why the average person can't just go up and ride their bike down the average ski-hill...

 PLC07- just take some old tires and get studs for them. easy to install and doesn't cost much. It makes winter riding, especially on frozen lakes, really really fun.

 Home-made studs with screws and a tuffy liner will last you a few rides... If you want to ride/board at this resort later on i recommend not to as somebody I know was banned for 5 years from the resort for such a thing!

 Yeah I've heard of that before. Looks awesome! I actually found two winter downhill races nearby I might enter. I'd probably be the guy that manages to fly off the course and hit a tree but it still looks fun! Haha

 Dude,my sentiments exactly,a"bombed out post WWII nightmare"is pretty much the way it has been depicted over the years.
All the workforce, apparently is now in London,but from what i've been seeing it looks like heaven.

 I was born in the US to Polish parents, i have had the pleasure of visiting about a dozen times or so in my life. My fondest memories growing up were the summers i spent with my family in Poland when my parents would send me away for the summers. Last time i visited i had the pleasure of bringing my bike with me. The riding there is great even tho its not always specific bike trails. They just have forests all over with tons of multipurpose trails to explore. To my surprise i even found a sweet free ride line in the woods by my uncles apartment in Sopot built by some locals.

Like every country it has its bad parts, however the nice areas are amazing. There is so much heritage and history in many of the towns, and the landscape is equally beautiful. I would suggest a Polish vacation to anyone, hopefully you find some awesome riding.

 Seriously... I'm glad to hear it's not JUST the US that has been mis-representing this region. I'm sure as Motoman said it's got it's problems with it's greatness, but where on earth is that not true??? I'm just amazed at how misleading everything I had heard about Poland up untill recently has been.

@motoman2100: that's really cool man, hope you thank your parents for making sure you kept a connection to your family history and their native land cause it looks BEAUTIFUL and it sounds like they made sure you got to have some awesome experiences in what looks like some AMAZING country. To say I'm jealous is an understatement. Are there ny places/cities in Poland you sugest as a "must see" place??? I already really want to go see "supernatural" and that whole area (where that PB story was shot that they put up recently... those ROCKS just look SO cool to me, I love it).

Go Poland!!!! You guys look lie you have some amazing riding as well as a just plain old BEAUTIFUL country aye. Sorry us Westerners have been so naive to how beautiful your contry is, but if you saw what we did in terms of "education" on the region, you might understand. It' pretty disgusting to me how mileading the portrayal of Poland and most of Eatern Europe/Asia is in general... Typical, but no less digusting...

 i've done this one, except we hiked straight up side of the mountain right to the top of packer with bikes on our backs & after that was about 5 miles of butcher on /off hike a bike & finding very deep snow covered creeks. that was the gnarliest day of mountain biking ever! it was mountain biking @ it's finest. i know that pain... we were planning on 2 runs that day, i took almost 5 hours... we were pretty much cooked.

i like winter riding in santa cruz though!

 Thats one fn crazy course !!!
