Crankworx headed to Innsbruck, Austria. A thriving city of culture with a mountainous backdrop – the perfect place for Mons Royale's ambassadors to show why the Merino Air-Con collection is top notch to ride in. Cool on the way up and warm on the way down, it will regulate your temperature throughout your ride.

I still can't believe during crankwork they kept saying "Innsbruck, the bike city". The "bike city" where there are only 4 official trails, and where 80% of unofficial trails are blocked by [people putting] trees and branches, and in some place you have to remove stuff from the trail every two days...The bike city where you get a fine for ridding without lights even if the sunset is 1h30 later. A city in which the bus drivers are allowed to kill or attempt to kill cyclists. And bike city with less bike lanes than any tiny village?

Couldn't agree more, it's incredible how all the infrastructure is in place, yet there are not a lot official trails around.

'Bike Park Tirol' has two tracks, not that exciting either. 'Bike Park Wales', a hill on an island with no mountains, with no lifts, less than 1k elevation...is one of the best places to bike! Has 10 trails, not counting the variations.

There are initiatives around that we need to support to help change that! (PB hint: an article on that would be nice)

and before someone jumps on me, yes, we are all biking down illegally down the hiking paths around, that's not the point.

The way Innsbruck was advertised as THE bike city during crankworks was disgusting. Bikepark Innsbruck?! Lolwtf. And riding a bike around town is becoming more and more suicidal.

Furthermore to this, in the video, they're featuring at least three spots were it's not legal to ride a bike. So much for honest advertising.

Sometimes I really think about moving, I'm slowly but surely becoming tired of the city and people of Innsbruck.

Yes, This +1, is this meant to entice Tourism??? You have better luck as a Cyclist in NYC than here!

As a person who spent most of my life in tropical country I wonder how bad it is riding in 10' Celsius without winter jacket. I hated it when it was winter in Melbourne even with winter coat on.
  • 3 1
Mate, I couldn't agree more. That just looks freezing to this Aussie.

I didnt know aussies were such pussies?

@indotrails haha, I don't like riding when it's above 25°C, and as long as it's above 8°C, I ride in t-shirt if it's not raining ; as long as you pedal, you stay warm

This exiled Brit much prefers cycling in cooler weather - I'd be in shorts too. When it goes above 30c here I struggle.
  • 3 0
As long as I have a good top layer to keep me warm, I can ride in shorts even at -5 degrees Celsius, you just have to get used to it, your legs get warm anyway.Imho the perfect temperature for riding is between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius.

I frequently ride in the cold in Melbourne, because otherwise I won't ride at all.... Don't be so weak !

@ogjew: very true. spoken like a true canadian

Winter jacket only comes out under 8 degrees. Even then it only lasts 15 minutes and then goes in the pack, even when raining. Sounds like you need to ride harder and faster to warm up more!

 @berryz: absolutely!!!!

@Waldon83: I tried that. From Moreland to CBD. Didn't like it. Tram was much better during winter. Big Grin

@mungers: there's no bad weather only bad clothing

Hi all I am putting together a company about High Mountain AM bike riding holidays on the best trails of Bulgaria. You will be riding epic trails up and down, combined with unforgettable scenery (waterfalls, caves, cliffs, free roaming horses and many more). The home made food is so tasty that you end-up over eating...there's beer too Wink The sleeping is combined with tents and camp fire, mountain huts, guest houses and as a good send off 1 day of chilling by the sea soaking in the adventure you just completed. All you need to do is get on the plane and we will be waiting for you at the air port... Some more details: www.facebook.com/oldmountainenduro/?view_public_for=1438514079562544

really inspires me to move near some real mountains

They're riding up the mountains, with backpack in what seems like sunny conditions and still keep their clothes dry. I'm impressed.

I usually ride in a sleeveless cotton T-shirt (either bought like that or with the sleeves cut off myself) and DH type shorts (because cotton jeans wear down really fast). Down to maybe 5degC, I can soak that shirt in sweat in less than 90 minutes of riding. I don't mind, I just do the laundry. I had some real cycling type shirts with base layer and all that, soaked just as well. So if these are as good as they claim, I'm interested. But so far, all this sports specific clothing makes such claims (keeps you dry and all that) but it never lived up to it.

Always loved the look of the Mons stuff and my mates with their jerseys love them but damn they're not cheap.
  • 3 0
Yeah well it's not polyester like 99% of jerseys out there. They're completely worth the price
  • 3 0
Quality of their stuff is top notch, no piling of the wool is pretty big to me and so far I have one jersey I got as a CWX Rotorua voli that's now 3 years old and I ride in it a lot...yet shows zero wear and holds its shape ...the techno wool shits awesome...not sure about their claim of warms though...a lot of their bike stuff is actually super vented on the back, so def not keeping you warm Smile ..but for sure the 3/4 arm stuff is my go to jersey for those semi chill 12-15c rides....

@andnyleswillriot: True. I sweat like a wookie in a sauna too so the odor-fighting qualities of merino probably pay for themselves.

even more expensive in Malaysian Ringgit! But I splurged on the stripey top in the video when it was slightly discounted. My most comfy riding top in the heat of the tropics, and it doesn't stink like my polyester tops. Also, not super warm in cooler weather, but easy to layer on Wish they'd do international shipping for free or reasonable rate, especially with those premium prices. I had a mate travelling to NZ and was kind enough to let me mail it to his address.

Endura, merino at half the price and holds its shape better around the neck.
  • 2 0
They make the ugliest jerseys haha.

@andnyleswillriot: True, very true. But I'm a dad who's the wrong side of 40 so style doesn't suit me :-)

Right on. Also consider mons royale is your NZ bretherin and I know the guys personally, rad bikers/skiers. Support em!
