Tough one for Marcelo. The only rider to ride in the rain, but still pulls off 3rd place. This was a damn good race for the podium. Exciting to watch and great coverage.

I’m not totally sure of this, but I think they probably had a qualifying event that served as “race before the race” for a broader set of riders, and then the top qualifiers ended up on the live feed for the final.

Why don’t more of the WC dh riders do this?

It sucks but I thinks it because the big brands aren't going to sell big numbers in South America more generally so they don't care. Dakar went to Argentina because huge motor bike and enduro sales. Its huge out there tbh.

Its probably too much of a risk for them, right before the WC season starts.

I've never been to valparaiso or moserrate, but i've been in Taxco a couple of times, falling on asphalt or concrete stairs is a totally different animal when compared to falling on dirt, so if you break something the nearest decent hospital is on the northern side of mexico city thats a 4 to 5 hour drive, you need to go down the mountain, back up again and cross one of the most populous cities in the world.
Also if it is a back related injury there is a probability that you will need to be flown to see an specialist in Houston texas, or fly one from houston to mexico city. Thats at least an extra day. So if you are a proDh rider why take the risk?
I currently live in mexico and thats common practice for very serious illness and injuries.

There might be other factors too but thats one of them.
