Rocky Mountain welcomes Eric Lawrenuk to the family.
"I honestly still can't believe that I am on the same team as the riders that I idolized most when I discovered mountain biking. Growing up on the North Shore, Rocky Mountain was always the standout brand pushing freeride. The Fro-Rider team; Wade, Richey, Thomas, and Tippie were all pushing the boundaries of what bikes could do; and they were all on Rocky Mountain's with sick custom paint jobs. Needless to say; there was no other crew that I wanted to be a part of more. The first bike that I bought from a shop was a Rocky Mountain Flow. I worked my ass off in the shop owners yard all summer to pay for the bike; and after that it was all mine. I learnt to do everything on that bike; hucking drops-to-flat in the back alley, conquering the skinnies up Mount Fromme, or learning 360's out of William Griffen Bowl. It's so cool to be back on the bikes that helped me learn all of the skills that have brought me to where I am today." - Eric Lawrenuk
What's it like riding on the same team as Gully and the boys? "I could not be more proud to be riding alongside Gully, and the rest of the crew! It's very motivating to have such an iconic brand bring me into the family, and support my passion for riding. I am determined to show the guys what I can do and earn my spot next to them. We have such good times together, and we are all so damn passionate about riding. I think that's the coolest thing about it; we are all so obsessed with bikes, and nothing makes us happier. I have already learnt so much from Gully over the years of us riding and traveling together, it's only going to get better with us doing team trips and events! And then there's getting to follow Thomas down a trail… holy cow man; I am still trying to link up all of the crazy side-lines and pre-hops that he does. I am so privileged to have guys like them to look up to, and follow down the trail; there's so much to learn from them!"
What's your favourite bike? "Oh man that is a big toss up between my Altitude and Slayer SS. The Altitude opened up the amazing world of Carbon and 27.5" wheels to me. This was an absolute game changer, and I have been pedalling up the mountain before I ride down almost all of the time! It's so crazy how capable a 6" travel bike becomes once you increase the wheel size just a bit; the trails get smoother, and your riding gets faster. I was so stoked to get my first hip-flip on a 27.5" wheeled bike for this video!
My Slayer SS is the best slopestyle bike I have ridden by far. It is so compact, and feels very similar to my dirt jump bike. Most slopestyle riders are looking for a bike that will feel like their hardtail on the take-offs, but has a nice give to it when landing big drops, and it does exactly that. I ride it at the dirt jumps just as much as my hardtail; and it slays on the dual slalom course!…ha ha slay..."
When is your second film, Alchemy2, going to come out!? "The plan is to have it premier on New Year's Eve! I have been filming with a lot of awesome riders, so you guys will be stoked! The film is presented by Chromag Bikes, along with the support of Smith Optics and Dissent Labs! I have learnt a few new tricks behind the camera, and have some key players helping me out. It's going to be an improvement from the first movie (that I ever filmed)."
Cheers Lornny, we are proud to have you on the team. Now go ride your bike!
Eric is also supported by Dakine, Chromag, Smith Optics, Dissent Labs, Five Ten, Kali, Leatt, Hayes Bicycle Group, Maxxis, and Coldcock Whiskey.
I thought Lornny still worked for Cove bikes? At least last time I called them it sounded like him, I guess you don't need to ride for the company you work for.
Up until the last 30 seconds , he was way overbiked for that trail! Its so smooth, wide and flowy... I could ride that on my 80mm XC HT! That flip at the end was so sick though!
