sorry to be a buzzkill but syncros premiered their stem at the last years seaotter and they already began to ship acouple months ago... www.universalcycles.com/shopping/product_details.php?id=34040

stem looks nice, but i've been annoyed that all these new carbon wheels are not tubeless. shouldn't this be a new standard for trail bikes.
  • 7 1
how bout a nice stem that fits a 888, god damn.
  • 5 7
Why would you want a 888 though?
  • 2 1
 because he rides an 888
  • 3 1
 I like my 888.
  • 3 4
I'm not just saying this because I ride a 888 but the Marzocchi system is honestly superior to be boxxer stems.

Why? Redundancy thats why. I feel way safer knowing my stem is not only bolted to my crown but also clamped to my steer tube... even the star nut helps keep things in place. thats 3 levels of redundancy. You can mess up alot of parts before your going to have you stem snap off the bike.

With the boxxer style mount only have the one system the bolts on the crown. they fair and you in for a bad bad day. If I had a boxxer or 40 I would run a standard stem such as a Thomson before I would ever run a direct mount.
  • 1 1
 deleted, my mistake
  • 4 1
Pepperjester - do you realise how much force is required to snap all four of the bolts into the crown? You could just about survive on one bolt if you happen to break 3 which will keep you connected just until you slow down....
  • 1 0
well, he has a point Adman. Obviously, your not going to break brand new bolts on your first run, but a little rust, and a few crashes and you have got cracks happening that you cant see, and boom, stem gone, but with that said if your stem is bolted to an 888 or a boxxer wont make a difference. I would like a direct mount stem for my 888 cause thats what i have, and ride. Its the same for people who ride shivers or dorados, or travis's. They need to make more DM stems for more forks. The stock Stem that comes with my 888 is fucking ugly.

PepperJester...you do realize how much of an impact it would take to literally torque those bolts off don't you. You are running 8 inches of travel under you, not to mention the force of a landing goes down, not forward, I would be more worried about your bars snapping or the welds on your headtube failing before those bolts snap.
  • 1 1
oh I realize all these things and impacts are cumulative. bolts brake from time to time. fact of life folks. Not saying happens often but it does.
  • 1 0
Agreed mate but do you honestly think that 3-4 bolts will fail at exactly the same time!???
If you maintain your bike properly you'll know of any weaknesses in bolts or parts before you ride it wouldn't you?! like it's been said, You'd snap your bars or frame before the clamping bolts on a stem.
You can over complicate things if you add too much Redundancy as you put it. The rockshock/fox designs have stood the test of time now for what-5+ years?????? Haven't hear of many injuries sustained by snapping bolts/stems thats be induced by riding. Only poor maintenance......

Well, there is always the possibility there. Obviously its like 1-40,000,000, but there is still a chance. Lots of factors to consider to. Like, did you over torque those bolts and strip the thread a little. When you washed your bike is it possible they were a little loose and water is between the threads and rusting slowly?

At the risk of sounding unpopular, let me be the first to say F- 1500 dollar "AM" wheelsets... A wheelset that costs almost as much as a nice frame? If that doesn't screem "douche" I don't know what does. Saving 300grams on a wheelset won't make you a better rider if you suck, period.
  • 5 5
No one said these would make you a better rider, and I don't think anyone thinks that. Simmer down.
  • 3 1
So if someone has enough money to afford these wheels they're a douche? How did you arrive at that logic Algernon?
  • 1 1
god damn thank you. 1500 for wheel set is just stupid. Wether your a professional racer or not... its just dumb
  • 1 0
Damn that hub looks like a DT 240S: lightening holes on the brake side, none on the drive side, extra meat on the rotor holes in the direction of compression.

Does anyone know the internal width of that rim? External shmernal - I want to know appropriate tyre widths.
  • 1 0
Definitely doesn't look like a DT Swiss hub to me. Probably either an American Classic or Formula.

just bought a truvativ holzfeller DM stem, then saw one of these at a race a few weeks back and was gutted i'd just bought a different one
  • 2 0
I don't understand why integrated stem isn't dumped for an integrated crown-stem...would look much better, less weight, less stuff to go wrong.
  • 1 0
i saw that recently, can't remember the brand but its already out
  • 1 0
I think Hope has created such a beast. I can't remember what forks they have it for.
  • 1 0
New Gen Boxxers & 40's. Review up on the front page within the next week or so.
  • 1 0
it's funny how much time it took them to come up with such product.
  • 1 0
C'mon Seraph, just a teensy bit DTish? Sorta goes hand in hand with the comment above mine, if you know what I mean.

You going to put the above carbon hoops on your carbon Nomad C?
  • 1 0
No, like I said in my thread I am going to use DT Swiss rims.
  • 3 1
great job on taking 26's stem design and changing the colors. brovo on all your hard work syncros
  • 3 1
great job on 26 taking the design from the sunline stem and making it more roundy
  • 1 1
The 26 and Syncros are completely different stems and have virtually no similarities except they both are compatible with the same forks and same size bars.
  • 1 0
All right, where's the article about Sun Ringlé's carbon AM wheels and Mavic's carbon AM wheels, I know they have to exist. It seems to be the thing to do these days.
  • 5 2
 sweet stem.
  • 5 4
I'm glad to see Syncros back in competition in the last couple of years but somehow all new stuff from them looks a lot 'cheaper' than their old skool parts. Syncros, bring the hi-end components!
  • 8 5
I think what you're confusing is "cheap" with "light-weight". Engineers put a lot of work into those designs to save every bit of weight in the final product. A company like syncros won't sacrifice strength, I'm sure all those parts are as strong, if not stronger than their predecessors.
  • 2 2
oh..this stem is new?..now i understand why i ordered them 2 weeks ago and still havent got them..mine is black tho..
  • 6 1
so true kovaldesign , their stuff used to look like top shelf products but recently they have a kind of budget look to them
  • 6 0
Agreed - the finishing work on that stem looks pretty poor, even if it's just a proto. The face plate looks f'in bootleg and the paint looks like crap.
  • 5 0
@ reks- it looks like its been spray painted...
  • 1 2
i agree but they probably were in a rush to get it show able at otter so they probs cut a few corners
  • 1 0
well..ive seen photos from the one that i ordered, and it wasnt bad finished as we see on these pics..ill let u guys know how it really looks like when i get mine..
  • 2 0
ya lots of weight shaved off
  • 1 0
I agree with LUIGI. However, there`s the AZONIC stem made for the 888 available in different anodized colours. Smile
  • 2 1
at $1900 st seems to be a bargain compared to the other AM wheelsets from easton and DT swiss lately.
  • 1 0
Rim internal width is 19.5mm Internal shape is tubeless ready
  • 1 0
 that is beyond expensive.
  • 1 1
 carbon rims = roadies
Smile

ps.
stem's paint job looks cheap.
  • 1 0
 yeah sweeeet stem!
  • 1 0
 so expensive
:0
  • 1 3
holy shit! that costs nearly 2 grand... thats worth more than my bike! (its for sale by the way, check my buysell stuff for info)
  • 2 0
Id rather take the wheelset lol
  • 2 0
Still cheaper than other companies' carbon AM wheel offerings.
  • 1 0
maybe because the other AM carbon wheels are Tubeless?
  • 1 4
