After a couple of years of designing and testing, we’ve finally finished our benchmark frame, the Switchback Ti. To celebrate we took our resident pinner, Dan Bateson (world cup 4X pro elite rider) to ride the ultimate version of our complete bike (Ti complete with the carbon-king upgrade) to the last stage of the Afan Enduro and the new(ish) Afan bike park, with Joe and Matt from Capta Media. It was the absolute definition of living in a cloud, continually grey and wet with absolutely no letup. We had two water damaged cameras (one of them being an FS700!) and even with waterproofs on we were wet and cold to the core. Although the conditions were demoralising, this didn’t stop Dan performing to a seriously high level and every time we huddled around Joe and Matts camera to look at the footage our sprits were instantly lifted! I want to say thank you to everyone involved in producing this video and I hope you guys enjoy the final cut.

I love big full suspension bikes.. In fact, I've just bought one! But there will forever be something about a a good looking hardtail that tickles my covetous gland like nothing else on earth.. and this thing looks beautiful.

this one looks awe-freaking-some, I love fulls but I want this one so bad...

@ Benji-man, You took the words right out of my mouth, as they say.

As much as I appreciate the technology and complex engineering of a modern DH rig, it's always the simplified beauty of a hardtail that "tickles me gland." Funny how it takes so little to ruin a good, simple design.

So far, everything Dan has produced has been gorgeous to me, down to the smallest detail. Cannot wait for mine to arrive...

Gotta say, aside from the bike, I really like the video.
It isn't all
"look at me, this is the most amazing bike video ever, nothing can touch me, everything else is rubbish, look at my camera techniques, look at my flash enduro helmet, listen to my amazing taste in music..."

Instead it's just like
"check out my product, we like it, we hope you do, we made a video on great trails that everyone rides, added a bit of music and did some editing and kept it under 5 minutes"

Top marks

Agree. Also like that the riding is... just good riding not this over showy style in those videos where riders are over emphasising every pump and movement like "look you skilled and fast I am" The true cream riders do it without the over emphasis they don't need to try making sure they look quick because its obvious. That just gets boring this was sweet and actually makes me wanna shred some trails in crappy conditions which is pretty much the out look for the next 4 months..

I love how a hard tail is on pinkbike and everyone commenting is British Have to love a good hardtail for the British country side and I have to say this is one of the nicest
  • 2 0
Couldn't help but notice that before commenting. But what can we expect? Hope it rides in dry Utah dirt as well as UK mud!
  • 2 0
I am sure it will ride just as well everywhere haha

I've gotta say, I've got the ti slackline, and it's some thing I can't ever see myself selling, and I've got a tracer 2 as well which is great, but it's not a keeper, not like the Stanton, it's an amazing bike, built up with 130/160mm pikes, 1x10, mavic en821 rims on pro 2 evo's.... Every time I ride it I just love it more and more, best 1250 quid (f/o) I've ever spent by a long way. Dan is a super passionate guy when it comes to bikes, he just buzzes off people loving his product, and that shows in the details of the frame, superb attention to detail, exquisite welds, beautitiful finishes, that raw finish on the steel frame, and the raw with the clear coat green over the top is just sublime, how many other manufacturers are producing frames that look so stunning, yet understated. They really are just pure class, and seriously, until you ride one you will never know just how bloody good they really are!

no no no you cant keep it even if you do like it ,you need the switchback cos its got slightly bigger wheels even if you don't need a new bike and yours is little more than a year old and showing no signs of fatigue or abuse.buy buy buy spend spend come ye come ye oh fickle mtb consumer.
  • 1 0
I don't need a switchback... I'd like one, but I don't need one.... Oh hang on, I've got a ti bike, and an ally bike, so I need a carbon bike, cos all the manufacturers are making bikes out of carbon now so I MUST need one.... And if I get a steel switchback aswell I'll have 4 bikes all made out of different materials..... Yup, that's the way forward... Spend spend SPEND!!!!

Being Canadian, I really don't hear much about this brand Stanton but the bikes they make are extremely appealing. For some reason most bike makers like to spec lesser tube sets to their more AM style hardtails compared to their XC bikes. For example, Niner Sir9 uses 853 but their Ros9 uses something else yet the prices are the same and that doesn't sound fair to me but most every company is doing the same except Stanton. Seriously, I would be shying away from a competitors Ti AM hardtail when Stanton builds an 853 frame under 2Kg! Makes one ask , why then are others tied to building anchors for AM steel hardtails. Its strange to see this only being done by Stanton. Obviously the Ti shown here is beyond most other frames, again, Stanton seems quite comfortable building a hardtail made for AM that uses a lighter weight ti tube set although that asking price seems a bit rich if it is being built overseas. As for the vid, well, if you never told me, I would swear you filmed it in BC as we get that kind of fog sometimes and it makes for a really cool atmosphere. Its like rain minus the rain in that its so wet in there just moving about in that stuff gets you wet.

That's is absolutely stunning!! I love the bike and the vid is also very very good, no / little slow mo was great.

Cracking looking bike. A big boys hardtail is on my shopping list for next year. I ride y-wal regular so I'm halfway there.
  • 1 0
What's the first trail, before the Bike Park?
  • 3 0
Y-wal in welsh or just "the wall" to most people. That's the 373 section extension. As you climb on 373 there's a left or right midway in. Left is old way. The right has a couple more turns before you reach the top. You get a bit more drop for your money. I can also see a change on the hair pin bend. The rider goes over the back of it. I haven't done that yet as I'm out of action for last 2 months with injury. Watching my nearest trail is nice but killing me cos I can't go.

Ok, have to give it a try. I use to ride the Zig Zags but on a kind of loop, get to the top by a shortcut from Rhyslyn car park and climb to the Bike Park Skills!

very nice. Asked Stanton about getting one of these when I first heard about it, before getting my carbon fibre hardtail

The price (even for trade customer) was very high because of the inherent cost of titanium alloy metal, which is no surprise to anyone who has bought Ti bikes or components in the past.

absolutely stunning bike though Smile

I dont really see £799 for a ti frame as that expensive really and trade must have been 20-30% off that. And £800 for a frame that could potentially last a lifetime isnt really that much. The frame looks stunning.
  • 13 0
 £799 is a deposit...£1599. RRP...
  • 1 4
I think they actually write their name "$TANTON"
  • 7 4
I do like the look of this bike not sure about the envy rims on it though, cant help but feel they look out of place on a nice slimish hardtail like this one
  • 7 2
Not sure as well. Why build a hardtail out of a material thats not only strong and light but also renowned to have great compliance and ride characteristics and then cancel that out with a wheel set thats arguably too stiff.
Or is it purely a fashion thing now to spec carbon rims on everything?
  • 4 2
 my thoughts also
  • 6 2
surely stiff wheels place the emphasis of " great compliance and ride characteristics" back on the frame were it should be??
  • 3 6
... or just cancel out the great frame Wink
  • 3 0
anyway on the positive side it is a beautiful bike ,came across one (not literally)in steel with a lovely kinda brushed green over black paint job really nice bike but ive always been a sucka for a tidy looking hardtail.
  • 1 0
What? Like the one that will arrive with me this week???
  • 2 1
I shall keep my opinion on that in reserve until we meet on the trail
  • 1 0
Keep your opinions to yourself Sasquatch!!!
  • 3 0
Carbon-King... a category of bike I simplify cannot afford. I didn't even want a hardtail until now!
  • 2 0
The enve equipped bike is amazing!! It's a work of art. I am sure people will poo themselves at the price of all that gear but no doubting it looks amazing.
  • 4 0
the steel frame is already amazballs how much better can this be ?
  • 4 0
I've been riding the steel Switchback for a good few month now and I have to say its a dream of a machine. The best hardtail I have ever ridden by far.

Stunning, would almost seem a shame to build up that frame, I want two! one to build and the other to hang on the wall, that kink in the seat tube is just fit!
  • 1 1
looks amazing, one issue i do have is when you go on stanton website with a view to buy a full build bike, use the only given contact which is a email link that does'nt work and no phone number it proves to be tricky

Absolutely love the look an design of stantons! hoping to buy a stanton 4X one day in raw as they just look so nice!
  • 3 4
Beautiful bike. There's no way I could justify £1600 for a hardtail frame, or £4100 for a full hardtail build though (and that's without the Enve wheels). It's just too more than the competition, especially when they're all made in Taiwan or China anyway.

Gorgeous bike but amazing trail and the music was a perfect choice, one of my favourite videos ive seen on here
  • 3 0
What's the difference between a hardtail and an egg?

You can beat an egg.
  • 1 0
Builds light/hardcore/blingin piece of pushbike history, adds carbon parts..

..doesn't mention full build weight.

Humble? Or rookie?
  • 1 0
Best hardtail out there? It would be my choice and in my shed if I could afford it. Just stunning. Saving up for the steel. Green or raw? Which is better?
  • 1 0
dammit, now here is ANOTHER bike that I must have - i hear Stanton is readying to release their mk2 version of the Switchback Ti...going to have to wait for that one.
  • 1 0
i love how they don't show the backflip fail, that is one of the best bits!
