For the final episode of the season, we spend some time with the longest-tenured rider on the Syndicate, Greg Minnaar. Following a quick round of golf and a rainstorm in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Greg heads to Morzine, France for a bit of testing with Tripod and backyard bonfire-building. Then it's on to Val di Sole for the close of the World Cup season!
Rad video, so cool that they talked about the frame breaking as much as they did. When you see the slow-mo of it, I'm just glad it was the bike that hit the pole and not Greg!
Huge respect to SC for including the frame snap in the story. Makes me think they are confident on their stuff. Unlike S ome other brand that snaps frames all the times and keep blaming others / making excuses / or most of the time just hiding it.
Thanks for the glimpse into your lives guys. Greg- man, what a year. I have always been a distant appreciator of your skills, but as I age and try to keep up with the young guns, I appreciate your talent even more. Congrats on a great season!!
Cheers
@john260164: there are trees all over the place, what difference will a wooden post make? But I get your point, I thought if the post has to be there then it should be designed to fail on impact.
@Braindrain: yeah that would be a good idea, or at least padded like some of the trees are. Natural hazards are one thing, but unnecessary ones another matter. Anyway, the good thing is Greg wasn't hurt
@COnovicerider: I don't think he means bad Karma for Gwin, but that Minaar is due good fortunes from the series of presumably undeserved bad fortunes that have recently befallen him. A return to zero, so to say, where Minaar is on the negative side of zero and is due good fortune to balance it all out.
I don't believe in Karma, so I simply hope that neither of them have a mechanical and that everyone makes it down safe. May the best biker that day win.
@COnovicerider: the real question here is: if they both thanked god for all their wins, and one of them wins world champs, then what? it boggles the mind.
@JaredHarzan: Thank you Jared for being astute. Minaar is a class act, and it was a shame he went out like that. It was a shame that Gwin had mechanicals too, and so when he came back from behind to win, that was thrilling and HE deserved it. Now I'd like to see Minaar reap the fruits of his labor, and if a little divine intervention or cosmic force gives him an assist, then he deserves it.
@COnovicerider: Karma's been used since probably the 60's, it's not just popular now...
@COnovicerider: Karma usually applies to the next life in religious traditions, it's true that the word has been very distorted in western conversation. Gravity and kinetic energy are probably far more relevant to DH racing.
Accept the weight and you eliminate the problem. You also lose the race though. Airless tyres require a whole wheel setup, are prohibitively expensive and can only be set for one pressure/weight or stiffness equivalent. Better to look to a wheel manufacturer than a tyre one. Mavic likes to make proprietary expensive quickly outdated unsupported shit and makes tyres.
