Jumps for show, corners for dough! George Brannigan takes the big rig to Christchurch Bikepark to do some unorthodox landscaping and keep the speed building as the Southern Hemisphere heads into spring/summer.

George had a tough year on the race bike, dealing with an unknown illness throughout the season, so it was good to get the downhill bike out for some filming and shred some laps in Christchurch.

bigquotesI always love going to Christchurch, I’v got a lot a good memories with racing and riding there. And it’s cool to finally do en edit there too! I’m back pretty much every summer so I’m keen to shred the trails again and find some new gaps!George Brannigan

The only Christ church that deserves a visit

Yes people still ride "that place" and in numbers greater than you think.

@streetkvnt-kvlt: Not greater than i think at all. Everytime ive ridden there and on the chair lift we always talk to someone local " its easy to ride as its just down the road" I often ask the question: Would you ride here if There was something else.
The answer is always, "aslong as it didnt Rattle my brains out then anywhere else is better"

Dont get me wrong, i want to love the place But id rather travel the distance to cardrona or QT or even Signall hill in dunedin... I dont want to ride the same trail over and over just to get to the main trails... thats poor design

@HeatedRotor: Hardly poor design. That's the way the mountain was formed all those millions of years ago. Besides you should try clearing some hardout bush/gorse sometime.

I talk to plenty of overseas visitors and no complaints there. You don't have to ride the same trail over and over to get to the 'main' trails. There are new trails that have been built to offer alternative routes and challenges. Some existing trails have been totally overhauled.

I'm just bloody grateful that I only have to drive 25 minutes to get there and I can hit up some pretty challenging Blacks, singles and doubles. If you don't like it there, don't ride there. Besides Vic Park is only a 10 minute climb away.

@streetkvnt-kvlt: As someone who Has worked at CAP, I have to disagree, The choice was made to Connect to the far side after the fires and this is where there has been issues, The CAP Management refused to "build to the road" and refused to build from the top side of the lift, instead decided on summit connector that turned into choir boy and summit getting hammerd because for awhile there you pretty much HAD to ride summit & choir.

Alot of us wanted to build from the Top side of the lift down to the road and Making "drop ins" for the trails as you went along - the council was going to Grant permission for bike signs etc for the road.
The other option was to find a way to get summit and choir to "bind the top layer" ie mix with a low volume concrete mix, while this had an upfront cost it wouldve saved many many trail repair hours which now wouldve been the better and cheaper way.

While I agree with you about some trails being fixed, such as Porky with a new entrance aswell, this has come very late.
Other trails like NTT(askins) looks like they were built & designed by a 10 year old who'd never built a wooden jump in his backyard - I've traveled half the world and Id struggle to find a worse proper jump/flow track lol.(id like to point out alot of trails are built by volunteers.....................)

These days, I go there when friends want to for the Bro zone line or smashing up some berms.

I loved the place pre fires so much i wanted to see it do well so i decided to even work there. What a mistake - However i want the place to do well because it is very close to me being in cashmere but  Im refusing to support it now, We just run shuttles instead of vic or CAP(when friends want to)

@f*cktoryteam: Nobody cares bud you're on a biking website.

@EvolutionMTBer: NTT is not really a blue flow,it's testy and a bit janky and you have to learn to squash and then boost to make it work.Karmillo(Karma ,shred ,bro is lots of fun and bro is actually quite a techy jump line-I'd say its harder than mini dream to clear smoothly and tbh thats not a bad thing. I spent some time in Whistler this summer and came back feeling good about my riding-the peanut butter and jank of CAP(including the beauty of the 35) and Vic Park soon brought me back to earth. Sure it could be looked as a a pain doing the summit connection etc but there's stuff to double/triple etc. Plus the trees are growing well on the old side of the park and it wont be long before we see that reworked-I for one miss Airtearoa so much. Personally I feel lucky to live in Chch eight minutes ride from the lift and able to ride Queenstown,Alex, Craigieburn and Nelson within a reasonable drive.

I'm about to take some new riders up there tomorrow and am dreading riding choir boy, summit connector etc to get around to the easy blue tracks. Such a race track for angry groms. The green trails are rutted so bad they aren't enjoyable for newbs. May have be fixed though? Not the best place to learn. But it's close and there's a chairlift.... I feel for the track builders- the dirt doesn't hold together well.
