Video: Remy Metailler Shreds the Dirt Diggler Trail in Fernie

Jul 15, 2021
by Rémy Métailler

Following our stop in the Fernie Bike Park we met a few locals and asked: "What the coolest trail we can ride here". They all replied Dirt Diggler. So we met with Bird Man the builder of the trail and his buddy Guillaume for a sunset lap down this epic mountain.

I loved every section of the trail. So much diversity. Speed, exposure, technicality, even some jumps! You can be sure I'll ride that lap again.

Following the original builder and hearing the stories about the trails and how it all came together was awesome. Big shout out to all the people involved in the making of this trail!

You can find it here on Trailforks: https://www.trailforks.com/trails/dirt-diggler/

It's amazing what you can do solely by the power of the keyboard.

 Congrats, now you can retire...

It's mind blowing that all over the province we have artists like you painting over the canvas of terrain and crafting such trails. Thanks!

Cool, looks like its a real gem of a trail and its super cool that you rode it with the artist who created it.

I can’t imagine having a canvas to make something like that, very cool

Comments seem to be less energetic ever since outside happened. Gnarly trail!

True, maybe it's time for the PB trolls to go be Outside

i mean, why put any energy into something you know is on a downhill slide into irrelevance from this point forward?

Remy, If your spending some time in he Kootenay's you should check out the Merry Creek area of Castlegar. The climb trails Merry Go Round and Mr Green Jeans are maybe the best climb trails in BC and Captain Kangaroo is a rad and long trail!!!! Check It!!!!

Fast guy, Remy at it again.
Understanding the trail is the key to his speed.
Considering how "barge" culture has taken over.
Kind of like when everyone blew up berms and never rebuilt them.
Perhaps, it's the finesse that sets him apart from the crows.
At least that's my opinion.
Yearly, monthly and even daily content posted by him is unreal and consistently good.
While we all envy his skills, we should count our own blessings in that regards.
After all, it serves no purpose to covet.
Let alone be jealous over someones else's skills.
Little confidence goes a long way on the trails.
Shred on everyone.

I took ownership back. I'm glad we were able to solve that issue without fighting.

@remymetailler: Bee attack mid-ride landed us in hospital once, after guy in front OTBed into a root nest. I'd still take that over a mountain lion.

 @BenPea: woah wild...

@BenPea: I did that too but fortunately I'm not allergic. My two buddies were allergic but they did not crash..

@Poachninja: Yes you are correct you can tell because wasps tuck their wings onto their abdomen when they land (enables them to get into and out of their nests) whereas hover flies always have their wings splayed out

Wasn't there an off-road scooter named the Dirt Digger a long time ago? I remember a guy getting a podium place in a Snow Summit race on one. Remy, you're awesome! We are Outside, We are Hoard.

Can't get over the length of the track. So sick. Looks so fun to ride. Man Canadians are spoilt for terrain. Great vid! Got me stoked to get out and rip.

Great video, Rémy. You accessed DD by Coal Creek/Matheson, right? Trailforks currently shows those roads closed – are those old reports? If so, would be great if someone could update them to current status.
