Real question, no sarcasm here: I don't have time to watch everything, and I have a question: is it a real hardline? Or "a line with few big jumps"? Or "Festline" ?
bonus question: wich trackwalk do I have to watch to answer these questions ?

More flow with some big hits, way beyond my skill set, but it's not crazy hard like Hardline.

The biggest problem is no one is really showing the tech bits. Especially as these are mostly world cup guys they're going to basically bunny hop over any designed tech section anyway at race speed. There are a couple of rock pinches where you have to eat some chunk before you basically fly over it but for these guys that's about it. I'm not quite seeing any slow speed sections that would be like a tree stump section or a val di sole roots section. And that's fine. Given its the first iteration of the course. It's gonna cut in and reveal more natural tech terrain over time, and they will improve it over time just as Wales did.

I feel like Ed Master's shows the most tech in his track walk. There's still a lot of dirt on the track. As it gets ridden out it's going to get gnarly.

 I wonder the same

The Harriet Burbridge-Smith walk shows some of the bigger drops up close and have good scale. There are a lot of rock drops that are 3-5m in height that are very tech. Also, the speed they carry in some sections is insane. The Jackson Goldstone full course shows that pretty well, plus some of the jumps are just completely blind and are, naturally, fully committed deep sends.
The GoPro effect is real on this one.
Also there’s a MoiMoi video that shows a lot of the riders sending and there’s a bit where riders are sending a gap way deep it looks like a 15-18m gap and they are fully going 10m past the lip onto the transition. You see these riders sending and being in the air so long they start to go nose down and land front heavy. Terrifying.

Bernard Kerr is often very blunt and he’s praising the track as one of the best he’s ever ridden.

I think it's less techy than the wales hardline. I'd base that on the Matt Jones video ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIEzaYxH93c ), it looks like while it's certainly not just a darkfest line of jumps, he as someone who is not exactly a DH specialist managed to ride all sections without too much problem. He's obviously a better rider than 99.9% of us in the comment section, but I think it still shows that a lot of the difficulty is in the jumps, not the tech.

It still seems fairly distinguished from DH worldcup tracks with the amount of blind features and narrow landings, so I think it will be a "hardline" in the sense that it's very hard to race and find time on.

You're thinking of slow speed, very undulating terrain, as tech. If you need to ride fast and accurately place your wheels, that's still technical, like an off camber high line

It's definitely different to Wales but isn't that good? You want something different. Whether it's made up of hardlines... well I think nobody can argue there's no chance any average joe around here would be hitting any of those features.

 the upload race is real
  • 5 0
Ok so, why is there more media coming from RIDERS than from any media crew or publication?
  • 6 0
Has to be because it’s cheaper. Red Bull is fully aware of the riders’ media commitments in their deals.
  • 2 0
@Bperd: It doesn't help that none of the big media crew are allowed up the hill. I meant that outlets like Pinkbike and vital aren't investing in media anymore. Would rather regurgitate what is on insta or crash clips

@Beyond-The-Tape: We have a photographer on site doing photo epics and bike checks. We already ran a photo epic from practice here and we have multiple bike checks coming out very soon.

Posting social clips and rider videos is something quick that we do to help highlight what's going on at the event that you might not have seen in other pieces of media.

@edspratt: so one article with some photos. Why don't you hire people to interview riders and get insight as to how they feel about the event. Some quality video content that's not just an iPhone getting waved about.

Ben Cathro's track insights, Sven and Boris' slide shows, and John lawlors raw clips used to be the base line of media coverage. Now we are lucky to get anything like that. Crazy times

@Beyond-The-Tape: It’s not just one article with some photos. That’s just a photo epic from day one of practice. We have more photo epics coming and we already have one of multiple bike checks on the site as well.

We are pretty much doing the same if not slightly more this week than we have ever done for Hardline. When it comes to World Cup coverage I think it’s fair to say that we cover that pretty well with Ben’s insights, results, analysis and more.

@edspratt: fair point about the world cups. Would be nice to see the same for Hardline. I think having cathro interview riders would be A welcome addition as well.
  • 2 0
@edspratt: for me the social round up articles are a reminder of why I legitimately forgot that pinkbike existed for the last few months, until I saw a suggested post or something on IG. I'm not getting anything unique here. Where are the good writers in MTB?
  • 1 0
I think it is actually a good thing for the riders. They got so much social following and likes during this period with their posts. I know myself have picked up quite a few riders which I didn’t follow previously on the social. It’s understandable that not everybody follows the social media, but nowadays it’s just playing such a big part for the riders and the sponsors

I really enjoyed Matt Jones’ vid. So relatable, but on a much bigger scale. Shows how gnarly the track is when you look at his responses a d he’s obviously a much, much better rider than I am.

I view this track as a different animal then Wales Hardline track. Which is great and needed.

The bottom section has the big jumps where the top two thirds is all tech and speed. Some of these big drops are mixed in between sections of alternating between hard pack and soft pack that just increase the difficulty as speeds increase. Baxter's highway is just insane speed.

BK(video) put down a pretty heater of the top section and you can hear his nerv's and tension in the wildness of his race pace like run.

I’m loving all this content. Especially seeing the women ticking off the features with so much style. It’s really exciting to see the progression. Also, probably a biased view from a Brit, but seeing Dennis Luffman, Jim Monro, and Gas to Flat absolutely killing it is bloody marvellous.

Not looking, Not looking, NOT LOOKING! complete media black out untill the event!!!
