 Probably because he didn't just do "well" but because he absolutely destroyed every else in one of the most legendary runs in recent memory (like Sam Hill's Val Di Sole run). It may have been a fluke but he's always been known to rip in the wet so I say it was more of showing his insane potential in the right conditions.
