Selected by Scott Secco - I consider Sterling Lorence to be our greatest documentarian of mountain biking on Vancouver's North Shore. I think this shot sums up an entire era of the sport in one frame.
I like that this is from 2007 and yet the rider is on a single-crown fork with an XC lid riding some seriously high consequence shit. Commonplace today, but would've seemed super gnarly back then.
This was average back then and even before without or minimal padding. Of course back the we were out for a week or so after a crash though. Pads are great and so is the North Shore!
This is a quintessential " Sterling shot" . Sterling brought Free ride to the masses with his iconic North Shore photography. It's beyond POD it's Art and it's a beautiful example of mountain biking culture.
Sterling is THE MAN! When I was a kid I used to get so pumped seeing his photos, then go ride with my buddies in the forest behind our houses. Great times.
