Race Report: Transierra Norte 2025
My partner rode this race and I was close by in the area. Which was lucky because he suffered a serious concussion on the first day.
Despite this, the race organisers and medical team encouraged him to keep riding into the second day. Brushing the concussion signs off as just something to ride through (dizziness, loss of vision, loss of memory). Luckily he didn’t heed their advice and retired, and I found him the next day with further deterioration of his concussion symptoms.
Instead of them being accommodating to a serious injury, the organisers made my partner feel that he was a burden that interrupted their enjoyment, snapping at his pleas to be taken back to the base the next day. It appears that they would have rather him continue to race with a serious concussion - which we all know could be fatal were he to have crashed again. To note, my partner was one of approx seven other riders who retired by the morning of the second day, so it wasn’t just him the organisers were having to shuttle back.
Added to this, accommodation on the first night of the race was dangerous (window-locked rooms with an open fire for the only source of heat), cold showers, poor storage management, no portion control for lunch and dinner (meaning if you were in the last group of riders you were left with the scraps as the first group of riders were allowed to go back for seconds and third helpings).
I’ve worked at a lot of national and international MTB events and I feel that TSN’s provision is well below what should be a decent level of event organisation and most critically, medical care, especially around the very important issue of concussion management.
The event should have been a once in a lifetime opportunity but it was very nearly a life threatening one.

Agree. It’s down to pot luck with driver availability these days. Was never like this back when it started. Questionable how they can justify the ticket prices when you only get sun 10 laps a day.

@skiandmtbdirtbag: perhaps you should question yourself on the take you took. You clearly assumed I was talking about financial wealth. Perhaps I was talking about the wealth of nature and the outdoors the people of Squamish have on offer. But looks to me you just have financial wealth as the go-to. The word wealth isn’t just about money, you know.

$180 GBPThis bag has seen a lot… and been laid down in the midst of some of the greatest MTB moments in the past few years and lugged up mountainsides in at least three different continents. Here’s your chance to own some of that.
The bag is technically sound but carries some dust and dirt on the outside (and most importantly, not inside).
Local pick up or delivery only, either in South London or Tunbridge Wells (and surrounds).
I don’t need to go into detail about what the bag can do- if you know, you know… and that’s why you’ve read all the way to this bit.
