How Much Have Olympic-Winning Mountain Bikes Evolved In the Past 28 Years?
XC racer in 1996 with a 100mm stem? No way, that would have been considered dangerously radical. That stem is 120-130mm minimum

Formula Release Yoke Mount Compatible Mod Coil Shock
@jim-the-saint: Spherical bearings are the ultimate solution, but they are fundamentally incompatible with the yoke design — all the issues from yokes arise because the yoke-side eyelet is carrying an intentional moment load (which a spherical bushing would not allow for at all).

First Ride: Ibis Ripmo - Now With Downtube Storage & Mixed Wheel Compatibility
@mikekazimer: I think maybe it’s confusing because a lot of the advocates for (relatively) long stays are always expounding on how longer = more balanced; shorter = more twitchy.

The Pinkbike Podcast: Why Did Our Bikes Get So Big?
It’s pretty nuts. Really stands out with non-bike-nerd people. I helped my in-laws pick out some basic hardtail MTBs for dirt path / gravel road riding, about 15 years ago. They still use them. When we’re somewhere all together riding, they look at my bike like it’s an alien being. Hardly fits through doors and everything else. I used to take my bike on commuter trains, don’t know if I could pull that off anymore. And my bike is from 2016, a good 4” shorter in wheelbase than a totally modern bike!

First Ride: Ibis Ripmo - Now With Downtube Storage & Mixed Wheel Compatibility
Size specific BB height makes so much sense — both for breakover angle and optimizing crank length decisions. No reason a size small rider with 160mm cranks should have their pedal (at 6 o’clock) 15mm higher above the ground than the XL rider on 175s.

DH Field Test: Frameworks DH - US Made & World Cup Ready
@devlincc: Oh I recognize Devlin from a Pinkbike feature a while back - - your frames look amazing. Would love to try, and for sure your frames have that extra attention to detail and unique approach that would make me want to spend more.

DH Field Test: Frameworks DH - US Made & World Cup Ready
@Struggleteam: Sure, I can see those realities, and I’m aligned with the philosophy. Just for my personal finances and calculus, $4,500 crosses way past the utilitarian & practical mark. Realistically I can’t ever see spending that $$$ on a frame, but if I somehow found the money in the couch, I’d want it to be Ti for that price. Can’t help it!!

DH Field Test: Frameworks DH - US Made & World Cup Ready
@Struggleteam: I try not to be a h8terbike, but I kinda agree… it’s well thought out but painfully basic for the price. Kinda reminds me of those Bronco restomods you see - looks awesome, stripped down, purposeful, basic engineering, would love to try —- but then they cost 3 times more than a new “regular” truck.
