Video: Ben Hildred & Ruth Holcomb Explore the Old Ghost Road on Unreleased Bikes
@eae903: I’m just going from memory about what the designers at SC said on that pod. They basically said that the Horst link achieved all their goals and that the Vala rides like they wanted. I’m not sure I’d expect them to say different.
It does seem the ride quality THEY desire is being achieved with the Horst on the three bikes so far, yeah?

Video: Ben Hildred & Ruth Holcomb Explore the Old Ghost Road on Unreleased Bikes
Listening to old Roller Door podcasts, it sounds like Santa Cruz’s designers have been refining their leverage ratios to linear down sloping. The move to the lower link driven shock allowed that. They long since abandoned their older VPP kinematics. The Vala development was when they realized they could achieve the same kinematics with long uninterrupted seat tubes, via the Horst link. In that pod, they said the kinematics were the same.
So I’m not sure they are changing the way their bikes ride with this switch. I do agree their bikes now look like everyone else’s.

Thanks for reposting your old bike park/festival article. It had not made my feed, but it is interesting.

Check Out: Five Ten’s Samba-Inspired Riding Shoes, A Digital Sag Tuner, & More
I have a slacker for my moto so I got the “virtual fender” for my bike. Like Stephan, my sag at the shock is different than actual. I find slacker’s claims that that’s an issue disingenuous. The manufacturers of bikes provide shock sag for a reason and that percentage at the shock is what they recommend. It doesn’t necessarily mean they recommend the same value at the wheel.
That said, the app is actually free and the device is useful for my moto and coil sprung bikes.
It is way better than an o-ring as you can really bounce around and settle in and read the measurements live as you do.

May 3, 2026V1 Ibis Oso Frameset E-Bike
$1500 USDI'm posting this as a frame as I recently replaced it with a new frame.
The frame was ride-wrapped for its life, but there are some scuffs. Nothing into the carbon though. I've put on a new upper bash and charge port cover that I had as back-ups.
The motor a Bosch Gen 4 RACE motor, which replaced the original. This replacement motor has about 1,500 miles.
The battery is also a replacement last summer. 730 wh.
Shock is a long-stroke Factory DHX2 that yields 170mm travel. It can be limited to make the bike have less travel (but why would you do that?). Shock was sent to fox for service last spring.
I juggled this bike among my lightweight e-bike, and unassisted enduro and XC bike, for its whole life, so it is less used than had it been my only bike.
Including a wolftooth premium headset, and X0 cranks. Rear brake is not included, but I left it in, in-case I do a full build.
I am likely going to gather old parts that I have sitting around and also list it as a complete, but thought I'd see the interest in frame only.
