Picture of the Month is an article showcasing the best Pictures of the Day from the month before. We take the most viewed photos that were uploaded in the previous month and give you the top 7 more or less...

Another month down, and another selection of amazing shots that have made it into the Picture of the Month. I'd first like to start by clarifying something that gets asked about almost every month. The way the POM works is the photos are ranked by number of views in the month that they're uploaded. It has nothing to do with overall number of view, or when the photo was POD. So, if you upload an image on September 30th, and it becomes POD on October 10th, it may have a lot of views in October, but it's only eligible for September's POM because that's when it was uploaded. This means that if you have a photo (or a video) that you think has a chance at POM or VOM you should upload it in the first few days of the month, and definitely not at the end of the month. With that said here are the most viewed photos that were uploaded in February...

The trail in the first picture is one of those trails you actually just wanna ride with a parachute on your back. Endless probs for the rider !! And the others picas are awesome too !

flag tjet (Mar 5, 2013 at 7:13) (Below Threshold)
Props to the rider, but also props to the photographer with the Super wideangle lens that made the drop look 10 times bigger than it really is..

tjet - have you ridden this trail? Based on your flag, i 'm guessing not. PG's is in my backyard, so I can can tell you first hand it's no joke. Yes, props to Dan for an ill pic, but your comment "the Super wideangle lens that made the drop look 10 times bigger than it really is.." is just plain ignorant.

I'd like to see tjet hit that section.
  • 13 1
Dunno about tjet but you can watch Brian Lopes do it on his Mojo HD in this video around the 3:10 mark www.pinkbike.com/news/X-Fusion-Visits-Brian-Lopes-Video.html. I remember watching that part over and over and over again - perfect positioning over the bike, tearing that corner a new one right after a scary drop...so sick.

It's odvious that its the wide lens because there would be no other reason for the riders ASS to be over the rear axle on such a flat trail. Can you say douche.
  • 8 2
tjet comment is perfectly accurate. hes not taking away anything from the rider and not saying it's not a tough section but merely commenting on the fact that the photographer used a great/different angle to give the shot a different view that made the section look wayyyy hairier when compared to this view: www.pinkbike.com/photo/9175477. yes its still a tough section but id rather ride the photo i linked than the photo that got POD if we only had one photo of the trail!

Thanks for posting the vid link atylerfox...Brian make is look easy! ...when clearly "most" would end up in the hospital if they were lucky!

how does it look any less harrier in the 2nd pic? you have to use your hands to climb up this section on foot, its that steep. and its an immediate left right after otherwise you're over a cliff. if you haven't been to PG Trail, you have no idea what you're talking about.

The angle of decent on the POD cant really be judged - it looks like its 65+ degrees. On the second angle, you can see its about 45 degrees. That doesnt take away from the toughness of the section but...45degress is easier to ride than 65degrees. thats all i was getting at

Looking down a gradient is always more daunting than looking across it
  • 1 0
exactly - and thus why this is a great angle for the shot
  • 1 0
the best by FAR is ze trail scroob action.
  • 2 0
 thats PG's for ya...

Tjet that section is much gnarlier than that photo represents, I heard Seal Team 6 will ride this trail just to remind themselves what fear is all about. I heard Chuck Norris himself had to take two passes to clear this section... Chuck fucking Norris!!!. NatGeo has video of Mountain goats stumbling down this section, MOUNTAIN GOATS!

@ munkyspank - post the link to those goats Big Grin

A photo that actually shows how steep a trail is, rather than making it appear much flatter; a berm being absolutely DESTROYED; an epic mountain landscape; an utterly ridiculous scrub; and a really cool sequence.

All that's missing is a massive crash with some poor guy's face half buried in the dirt, but otherwise this has to be one of the best selections for POM I can remember. Smile

Any way I could get the Yeti Elliot Jackson one in a bigger resolution so I could use it as a desktop background/print it?

pg no joke , im still haunted
  • 6 1
Geez I could do that in photo 1, just highly doubtful I would be on bike at the bottom of it.
  • 2 0
Haha agreed with that for sure.

you all can say what you want about this first picture but what i can tell you is that that mountain is in my backyard i ride there all the time and ive seen this trail in person and i wouldnt touch it with a ten foot poll. i am a little new to DH riding but this is by far one the heaviest trails on the mountain. not just the decent on the first drop, its what youre going into after youve made it.

PG is like this: You are braking as much as the traction on your super-tacky Minions will allow you to... and your bike is still accelerating out from under you.
High five anyone that you know that can make it down it in one piece.
Be amazed by the very few that can shred it.

That Eliot Jackson shot is mind-blowing!!
  • 1 1
I have never been to the place the first photo was taken from but can say from looking at all the pics and the video of it that it doesn't exactly appear extreme but I wouldn't be comfortable riding it on anything except my DH rig. Its definitely a great pic though even if i prefer Olly's scrub.

I would've honestly given number one to the ABQ honorable mention, that shot is just beautiful.

That's sweet that Pinkbike publishes photos of illegal (although admittedly well known) trails with names and locations on the front page of their website!
  • 2 0
hERE hERE!! REMOVE THE TRAIL NAME PLEASE!!
  • 4 0
Everyone should go ride there everyday and buy a soda at the local store. Then we revitalize their economy 10 fold, then BIKE PARK!!!
  • 1 0
anybody can remake #2, one could do it with very little speed. Kind of a lame photo. I'm all for #3 or #4. #3 takes a lot of skill, #4, what a landscape!
