A little video from the first race of the year, Fraser Valley.
Series Recap: MEC Canadian National Enduro Series presented by Intense Cycles2018 was an unprecedented year for Enduro racing in Canada, this year saw the largest Canadian representation at EWS events, a massive increase in enduro events across Canada, an up-tick in race participation, more women riders across all categories, and the closest competition to date!
A few of my highlights from this years season are:
- Our CNES Development Team supported by Blueprint, absolutely lighting the podiums up across Canada and the USA.
- More women: our women's categories are growing, and the U21 category is quickly rivalling the pro's!
- Amazing support from the local communities. Volunteers, food vendors and trail clubs, we salute you!
- New racers > we had more than 437 new registrations this year! That's huge! The majority of these were in our 30-39 category and our U21 categories.
- Trail love - we donated more than $10,000 back to local trails this year, I say WE, because that's you (the racer). Whenever you register for an event, I allocate 10% of your entry straight to the local trail club, but it get's better, MEC then matches our donation, and together, we're able to provide a little bit of love for the club!
- Championship > This was the first year we ran a one-day national championship event, my favourite event of the year. Super excited to bring this back to Panorama, and test the limits of what you all are willing to go through!
-
Volunteers > with more than 1440 volunteer hours this year, our vollies earn a huge thanks, their selflessness and dedication to ensuring that you all have fun is what reminds me that no matter what, we're riding bikes and having fun!
There are a few people that I need to give special thanks to: Keri Lewis, Kaitlin Lomas, Sue Helly, Michelle Davies, Connor Hamilton, Peter Wojnar, James Cattanach, Sam Egan, Alvaro Leal, Jacob Tooke, Jay Balabas, Jose Letelier, Ryan Cronsberry, Dimitri Kuzmin, Dustin Adams, Jason Moore and Cadence Thadawg.
Lastly, I wanted to give a shout-out to MEC our title partner. Likely at some-point this year, you had your bike serviced by the crew at MEC, this team goes out of their way to help get every rider back in the event, from taking apart other bikes, to staying late to troubleshoot a fork, there support has been irreplaceable. Some other incredible things they do are support the efforts of local trail clubs through our matched donation program, but also through their Community Grant programs they help build capacity, education and relationships across every province. Lots of events have sponsors, I truly see MEC as a partner, we work together to not only bring better events to you, but to also develop athletes, trails and provide support for some truly unique experiences.
This year was a very competitive year for the overall, with a surprising few twists, so check below for the top three in each category!

The only sanctioned categories will be the Pro Men (Elite Men) and Pro Women (Elite Women), those will be the only categories requiring UCI licenses to compete. All other categories will be unaffected by the sanctioning.
Furthermore, the 2019 Canadian National Enduro Championship™, will be held alongside the Downhill MTB Championship, on the same weekend. The CNEC event will take place on Saturday, July 27th, with practice on Friday, July 26th. The DH Race will take place on the 28th, with practice and seeding on the 26th and 27th. Think about it, Enduro practice, even with chairlifts will take most, if not all day. You might be able to sneak in a couple DH Laps mid day on Friday and pre-ride the Enduro stages outside the bike park after the lift closes, but then you're switching between bikes and equipment. If the Enduro race is as long as last year, there will be no way to do any practice and more importantly, seeding for DH before the lifts close on Saturday.
This is nationals, arguably the most important race for a privateer who wants to qualify for Mont Saint Anne or get EWS Qualifier points. Why make rider chose one discipline?
We didn't see a huge cross-over between disciplines this year or last. There's lots of behind the scenes, and bringing the event into one weekend festival will really promote both sports.
No need to choose a discipline. Just be organized, train hard and come prepared and you'll do well in both events.
Think about Crankworx, multi-disciplined games over the course of two weeks. If Sam Hill can win Garbo and get second in the Enduro, surely you can give this a try!?
Cheers,
