PRESS RELEASE: Norco Bicycles Launches Customizable Sight Carbon Build Kit Program in Canada

For passionate mountain bikers, who are longing for their dream bike, we are thrilled to announce a brand-new, customizable Sight Carbon Build Kit Program. Our market is fueled by individual rider preferences and customization is at the core of rider satisfaction. For the first time, riders can choose the frame, suspension and components independently and build their custom Norco Sight Carbon online. Once riders have their dream build ready, they select their preferred Norco dealer to assemble and dial in.

You've always dreamed of that stealth black Sight Carbon frame with 29-inch wheels, Fox suspension, and SRAM X01 Eagle drivetrain? No problem. You'd rather have that build in blue? You can have that too! Hang on, you said you want the deep red frame with the same suspension and components? For sure. Let's do it!

With the Sight Carbon Build Kit, we put you, as the rider, first offering five frame colours, two wheel sizes, three suspension kits and three component kits to choose from. You now have the opportunity to build your dream bike based on your personal taste and riding style without compromising on components, spec or frame colour.

Conceptually I was excited cause I thought this would allow you order your choice of Tires for example, bar width, and dropper post of my choice ect. which would allow you to get a bike that you don't end up swapping parts after the purchase. But really it seems like I can order a 9.1, 9.2 or 9.3 sight in a different way. Not much for customizing.

Agreed .... I took a quick look ... it's basically just three choices ... frame colour, suspension option, and build option.

Not ideal like Fanatik's bike builder, but cool to at least have some choice while still getting OEM build kit pricing (versus doing a frame up build).
  • 11 1
Yeah, it's great idea, but it needs more options. Even if it's not being able to choose individual parts, a few more options in build kids would be nice. Like being able to prioritize certain aspects of the kit. Maybe I care more about brakes, or drive train, or cockpit, etc.

 Know what?

Yes, it's limited but it's a step in the right direction. You have SOME colour choice, which is better than most brands.

The part I really like? For $4999 Canadian the Sight C3 was already a good deal. Now you can pay 500 bucks and get on a DPX2 and a Kashima fork? Seems extremely reasonable to me.

@shorelocal: Still nice to be able to pick your suspension. I usually just want the better shock/fork and Ill slowly upgrade the components as they break.
  • 3 3
Too lazy to check, but do they at least have a non-SRAM option?

@j-t-g: Yep, this is the value I was talking about... normally when you do a frame build it's way more expensive since you pay retail (or sale price if you are patient and deal hunt). Norco is passing on some of their buying power as savings to consumers. In the world of direct sales bikes this is a step in the right direction for Norco.

@shorelocal: so basically lots of unique build combinations then...
  • 3 0
@gramboh: Except it's still through a shop, the shop still gets margin, and provides the build and support for you.

You pay Norco.

Best of both worlds really.

@MTB-Colada: Drive train options are only SRAM...too bad.

Norco is testing this on the Sight in Canada. Logistically, it is 10x harder to pull this off than any non-industry citizen could fathom. So give them credit. If it takes off, the US would be the next obvious market...then adding the Optic and Revolver in the mix in due course. And yes, I work in the industry.

From a manufacturing perspective the biggest challenge is just to forecast the inventory you will need of various parts. The assembly isn't that much more complicated depending on what processes get done at each stage. There's also nothing to say that they will do a good job of it.
  • 1 0
Probably the Range before either of those two I'd guess

Give me an aluminum option with a FOX 36, and a lower part spec (e.g., Guide R/NX or Shimano SLX), and I would buy one today.
  • 2 2
My thoughts exactly. Specialized enduro 650B in alu with a nice build for 3800. 5G min is out of my snack bracket.

Check out the Sight A1 on their site...A nicer wheel and drive train than what you are asking for but a sick bike with a really nice build with Fox 36...

Dont know why every manufacturer doesnt do this with enduro bikes. Good suspension, Usable drivetrain and OK brakes, good tires dropper and youre good to go at a not ridiculous price. Coudlnt give a fck about fancy drivetrain components

Sneaky, they deliver the bike in pieces to the dealer, thus avoiding some duties, seemingly passing along the savings. LBS doesn't have to stock the bike and still makes a decent margin. LBS does a full bike biuld, most likely resulting in a better build, if you got a good LBS Mechanic! I think it's a good move

Looks a lot like Production Privee's rolling chassis, with the advantage of being able to choose your suspension, but the disadvantage of not being able to choose your cockpit. Overall, I'd call it a tie. Still, very much a step in the right direction.

Edit: looks like Production Privee doesn't allow you to customize the cockpit—only the saddle. My bad.

Currently building up a new carbon sight frame. This is a cool idea but I’d still likely just buy a frame again and build from the ground up. It’s not cheaper but I get exactly the bike I want.

This is definitely a step in the right direction.

Norco should do a trade up program contest for current Norco owners. Select one of their registered owners and offer them a free upgrade. I'll offer to step up and be the first to test it out. I'd give up my amazing 2014 A7.1 Sight for a 2018 Carbon customized Sight. Taking one for the team. Yup.

this years sight 27.5 is a challenging bike for long days of peddling uphill. very short dropper posts , heavy bike weight, meaty tires ,lower bb, and seat angle make this more a down oriented than up bike. once you get to top of trail prepare for good times.

I heard they were testing the waters with Sight. If successful, we'll probably see it available for other models in future.
  • 1 0
It's a good idea but needs more options
Hopefully this becomes more standardized and everything will give you loads of options when you buy your bikes online Smile
  • 3 0
 Shimano xt option please !!
  • 2 0
COOL !! what about the other bikes??
  • 4 4
 Cool idea Norco. But.....

Who mounted the E-Thirteen tire and wheel combo in the top image? Its like a crooked picture on the wall.
  • 2 0
I love how everyone but one are canadian
  • 2 0
Since the program is only available in Canada to start it's not that surprising. Start with their own country..I like it.
  • 2 1
So can I choose an Aurum or a Range frame in the process?
  • 2 2
I owned a few Norco bikes because they’ve always been a best bang for your buck kinda deal. Not so much anymore.
  • 3 0
I think the biggest thing is out Canadian dollar is npt the best bang for your buck anymore. I look at the prices in USD and get a little teary eyed.
  • 1 0
 That a good point @RoboDuck:
  • 1 0
Lots of canadian flags in this thread, hey?
  • 4 5
I just can't bear that the marks on the tire is not perfectly aligned with the one on the rim.
  • 3 1
Missed this @Milanboy1986 My bad... Hopefully I get down voted.
  • 6 8
Decided against Norco this year because of their full SRAM kits. THIS CHANGES.... absolutely nothing.
  • 2 0
If you're savvy enough to do your own labour, you can pull an eagle kit off and get enough money to swap to shimano from Chain reaction... not the end of the world.
